    Man eating nhandu chromatus.

Another reason why I only do breeding loans with people that I know- provided they have experience! This callous attitude toward the life of a male T makes me really angry. Sure, there can be unpleasant surprises, but under controlled conditions the male has a reasonable chance at survival...

    Postultimate male survives another molt!

Here's the largest of Bilbo's ten children. I suspect she will get her adult coloration on the next molt.

    Postultimate male survives another molt!

Bilbo is still with us  I have not mated him however, as I've seen no sperm web development. He's retired now. Bruce from Arachnophiliacs, who's joined me in watching his progress, actually came over awhile ago to take some photos. All 10 slings are thriving. I'll post some photos...

    A pair having fun!

    Postultimate male survives another molt!

Just an update on the 10 slings. They're all fed regularly and unless in premolt they don't refuse meals. All have nice plump abdomens and are webbing nicely, etc. But three are tiny compared to their sacmates, just like Bilbo was tiny when he matured. And I mean REALLY tiny: about half the size...

    Postultimate male survives another molt!

Here's a video of Bilbo crawling across a counter with me running interference. As you can see, he can move quickly but not as smoothly as other avics, as his legs are still misshapen from the first postultimate molt. He can climb textured surfaces like cork bark but has difficultly with plastic...

    Postultimate male survives another molt!

Definitely! I am taking photos of him tomorrow and will post them here.

    Postultimate male survives another molt!

I checked on him this morning and found him on his cork bark hide, grooming himself. His abdomen looks a lot better. He's a bit wobbly when he walks, but hopefully that will improve as he hardens more. If necessary, I'll feed him prekilled crickets.

    Postultimate male survives another molt!

Wow- you've never heard of one either? I just got home after a nail-biting day at work, and Bilbo is still with us. He's doing OK: he sits on his cork bar and does stretches. I will take a vid this weekend and post it.

    Postultimate male survives another molt!

LOL. You have a point there. ---------- Post added 08-18-2014 at 05:58 PM ---------- Thanks, awiec. Like you, I think early maturity was a factor. He was raised communally, so I suspect that constant proximity to adult females may have triggered it. Since few hobbyists raise their avics in...

    Postultimate male survives another molt!

LOL I'd love to take credit for that, but I didn't originally breed him so know nothing about his antecedents. All I know about his past is that he was raised communally in a large ExoTerra with other a. avics and was the tiniest MM of his species that I'd ever seen. ---------- Post added...

    Postultimate male survives another molt!

I have a MM A. avic who is nothing like any T I'ever ever owned. And I've owned them for over 20 years! I've mentioned him on this forum before. I got him as a MM, albeit a tiny one (hence his name, Bilbo) and in mid-February of this year he survived a post-ultimate molt, minus one palp. Once...

This will just break your heart!

I'm so sorry for the loss, Sandy. Hopefully you confronted the seller with their mistake and they either refunded the purchase price or offered to replace the sling with a properly packaged one.

    Handling L.Parahybana

I have been keeping Ts for over 25 years, frequently handled docile NW specimens for educational demonstrations, and never been bitten. I hear people say all the time "My rosey loves coming out for a stroll" but really, Ts are not wired to bond with their owners and they get no pleasure or...

Really nice T! LPs are one of my favourites.

Postultimate male became a dad last weekend

I made the records as detailed as possible, considering that I don't know his history prior to purchasing him. The female is a CB specimen purchased originally from Tarantula Canada. Some baby photos :) As I mentioned in my original post, there were only 10 survivors, so his fertility may be...

Postultimate male became a dad last weekend

He'd already had his ultimate molt when I bought him. The hooks remained when he molted a second time.

Postultimate male became a dad last weekend

Last weekend something interesting happened in my collection: an avic avic sac finally hatched, and the father is a postultimate male! Last February one of my MM a. avics successfully completed a postultimate molt (I mentioned him on this forum before) and started spinning sperm webs soon...

    R.i.p.

I'm so sorry. But at least you enjoyed her company for a long time, although in some respects that makes it harder.
