PS I also have a third emperor.....
which lives in a smaller viv. The little dude Steve is about 2.5 inches now, he's shed twice since we got him..... He also eats like a gannet and is really active (And grumpy) if disturbed, he'll flip himself over repeatedly with the effort he puts into...
I have two large WC emperors (One about an inch bigger than the other) in a 2ft tank with lots of peat and big bark hides, its sprayed every day, but after 6 months of owning them we have found that they rarely come out, if we ever see them its because we've lifted the hides to mist the...
Hi,
I have a little dune scorpion, bought him about 6 months ago. When we got him he was small enough to fit in a camera-film tub, he was about an inch in length, and incredibly fast/aggressive. We put him in a glass tank thats less than a foot long, and feed him once a week on 3 small...
Our communal tanks are 3 ft long with mesh ventilation across the top on the back, looks like there's no way they can get up the glass to the ventilation grill but they do....its about 8 inches up, we finally caught one of our desert hairies standing on his sting and pushing his body up til his...
Gav I put mine in the airing cupboard and leave the door open slightly, otherwise put it right in front of the radiator on a stool or something so the glass is touching, my dune scorp tank dried out in 48 hours this way. Switch your heat pad off though so it doesnt get too hot and break
please note Brian's comment about murder..... this species shouldn't be left alone long enough to prove that they are in fact a cannibalistic species, they are incredibly aggressive and will indeed eat each other in the snap of a finger
By the way, another variation with aggression..... I have 3 imperials, they are, for the record far more grumpy than the supposed "aggressive, this species will readily sting" H. Arizonensis.
Aggression seems to vary from one scorpion to the next, and the rules dont seem to apply to all specimens, we had one H. Arizonensis who is incredibly placid, he doesnt even stop digging when you take the lid off the tank. We tend to change his tank around once a moth or so which keeps him busy...
Hi,
We just bought a new emperor today, which is a bit bigger than the sub-adult we already own. We set up a new big tank and introduced both at the same time. Firstly, the larger one is sitting in his hole, pincers sticking out, and he appears to be twitching his claws. The smaller one is...
Thanks, assurance is always a relief !! I've read in places that they tend to go without food for no apparent reason, the desert hairies tend not to moult in captivity so I dont think its that....
I am not sure to be honest whether its male or female, his little under flipper bits are very...
Can anyone offer some advice on the peculiar habits of Seth, my desert hairy scorp? He has always been still by day, pincers protruding from his hidey hole, and trashes his enclosure every night. He has always been a good eater, we feed him once or twice a week on a few brown or black crickets...
