    Ah, mites!

This might be a good thread to ask a question: What exactly do mites DO to a centipede? Do they block up the spiracles and end up killing the centipede, or are they just more of a nuisance? I asked because I've got the same problem as Poecilotheria, with both a puerto rican and an S...

i need info on fat taileds or death stalkers

I've got a few of these, and can tell you what my setups are like. I'm not an expert or anything, so take what I say with a grain of salt. All of my guys are in plastic 'Rubbermaid' type containers. How big a container depends on the size of the animal. Most of my containers are about 1 foot...

    Orange Baboon's leg detached!

Ok. I have had this Orange Baboon since early May, and have not had any problems until today. I took a look in his cage and noticed that one of his legs had apparently detached from the body. It was hanging in the web. The entire leg is just gone. Severed or detached from the coxa. He has...

    Predatory mites?

Ok. I've got the equivilent of about 110 gallons (VERY rough estimate, as all my stuff is in rubbermaid containers). What size would you suggest to treat everything? It just seems like each week I am noticing mites floating around in the water dishes of different cages.

    Hypoaspis miles

Ok great, thanks. Another thing I was wondering about is this: Do you only use them when you've got a noticeable mite problem, or do you just sprinkle some in your tanks every other month or so?

    Hypoaspis miles

I am looking for information on the so-called 'predatory mites'. According to a book I have, the scientific name for these is "Hypoaspis miles". 1) Where can these be bought from? 2) Has anyone ever used them? 3) If so, how are they used to treat spider and scorpion enclosures? Thanks...

    Predatory mites?

Where can I get these? I think they'd be a very useful 'tool' to keep stocked up on.

    p.liosoma

You can use a shallow water dish if you want, but they take most of their water from the things they kill. So really, the dish is not necessary. At least I have not found it to be. I feed mine 1 large cricket a week. Seeing as the scorpion itself is only slightly bigger than the cricket, I...

Filling there water dish with sand?

My A. amoreuxi, A. australis, A. bicolor, and P. leiosoma would do this all the time....so much so that I no longer even put a water dish in their enclosures. Conversely, none of my 'forest dwelling' species have ever done it. I think it is just as XOskeletonRED says. It must have to do...

    spider molts

My B. emilia seems as if it is about to molt. It has not eaten anything in about 3 or 4 weeks, and the 'bald patch' has gotten really dark. My main concern is that it seems almost dead. Its kind of 'slumped' on top of its hide box, and has not moved from there in quiet some time. I had to...

    Question about basic taxonomy

Ok this may sound stupid, but upon which taxonomic level is "myriopod/a" located? One would think it is a class, yet all the information I could find lists Chilopoda and Diplopoda as classes. I almost think that the sites I've been looking at are 'dumbing things down', and that Chilopoda and...

    Q about changing substrate

Ok, thanks guys. I've already got another substrate 'issue'. I've been using a peat/potting soil mix for the 3 pedes I got at that show about 3 weeks ago. While feeding them today, I noticed little white 'stalks' growing in the substrate. My assumption is that this is some kind of mold. I'm...

    Q about changing substrate

How often do you guys change your centipedes substrate? I went to a show a few weeks back and a dealer told me to do it once a month. He said that the centipedes secrete toxins which ultimately will cover the substrate. If not changed regularly, the centipede will literally poison itself...

    Rowland Shelley's book

Hi, I'm looking for information on how to order Dr. Shelley's centipede book. I was all set to order a copy, went to the ATS site (where they were advertising it), and found that the link to the ordering info is down!

    Usambura Questions

Thanks for the help, guys. I'm glad to know I did everything right. I have another question, though: how often/how much do you feed them? It seems really hungry. I feed it 2 crickets yesterday, and 2 more today. Should I just keep doing this until he stops eating?

Ne1 here have a Hatian Giant?

Hey, I bought one yesterday at a show. I've got it in a plastic rubbermaid container with airholes drilled along the sides, right above the lid. I use a 50/50 peat/potting soil mix (wet it, then take a handful and squeeze it until all the water is squeezed out. Repeat). Put a wide shallow...

    Usambura Questions

I just got one of these yesterday. It's probably about 2 1/2 inches long. I've got it in a plastic 1 gallon jar, with about 3 inches of peat/potting soil mix as substrate. There's also a shallow water dish inside the jar. Is this ok?

    Dealers in CT, MA, RI

Hi. I was not sure where to make this post, so I just put it here. I apologize if this is not the right forum for it. I'm looking for dealers in CT, MA, and RI...the larger the selection, the better! PS: I already know about Regal Reptiles. They are very good, and so far I've bought all...

    My centipede is behaving strangely

Well, the centipede ended up dying. When I took the body of the cage, I noticed there were little white "flakes" on the body. Any idea what this could be?
