Hi all,
I was hoping to get some information on the Bay Area Tarantula Society(SFBATS). Do they have a web site? What does it take to become a member?
If anyone has information, please let me know.
Thanks!
I have kept A. avicularia socially. I have had two together now for almost a year and they have done fine. You just need to make sure you keep them fed. This is about the only T I would recommend keeping socially. Even other Avics are not a good idea, for example, A. versicolor does not do well...
My P. formosa also does what you explained. She has burrowed down into the substrate right next to the corkbark. This is where she stays during the day, she only goes up higher at night.
I know what they mean now by "Semi-arboreal".
If it were me, and she just molted today, I would give it some time before you try to pull the exuvia out.
If you have a long pair of tongs, and can get it out without disturbing the T, go for it. If not, give it a couple of days or so.
If possible(it may not always be), put the old, smaller container inside of the new, larger one. Then you can coax the T out or just let the sling find its new home on its own.
If you can't do this, just put the two containers side by side and coax the T out of the old and into the new with a...
All of my arboreals are Avics, and for me, it seems to be based on the individual as to how much they want to be seen. I have a couple that it dosen't matter if they are in pre or post molt, they just don't come out of their hides. I have others that are reclusive during their molt and that is...
I really wouldn't worry about your Avic not webbing right away. It will most likely create a hide when it gets close to a molt, several of my Avics have done this from time to time. You may want to put in a piece of corkbark so it will have something to attach its web to. Putting in something...
It's not an A. bicegoi, I was just answering chads' question.
I know there is also the "Powder Blue Pink Toe", I just got brain fade right now on the the scientific name.
I agree,
I have a large P. formosa, and I wouldn't even think of handling her. First of all, she is so quick. Second, I don't want to get bit by a Pokie!
Congrats on the molt!
I've been waiting for my Chaco to molt now for a long time. I got her about
2 1/2 years ago and she has not molted for me yet. She is 5.5-6", but I would think she would have molted by now.
Honestly, that size of container might be too large for a small sling. If you do get a 1/2-3/4" sling, you may want to use a small vial until the T gets a little larger. In too large of a container, a sling may have a hard time locating it's prey.
Don't worry about adding a water dish...
Do you have a pic of the enclosure?
Being that the T is about 2", the tank at that size might be a little large for it. If you are going to keep the T in the enclosure, give it some time to adjust to its new surroundings. You will also want to mist the sides of the enclosure a couple times a...
I've had two eggsacks, 1 A. avic and 1 G. rosea. I left both with the mother the whole time and I did not feed either one at all during. Both sacks hatched just fine.
