    Uhm. How did that happen?

You may already know this, but since tarantulas don't have hemoglobin, there are very few parts of a tarantula that are red when injury is involved. Beyond that I have no hands on experience with T illness, but from what I have read in other threads it may be nematodes, in which case I would...

    Nameless Ts

I like to just try to find awesome name. I am thinking of naming my next T " Destruct-o-tron Von Lazerexplosion the third"

Whats the most valuable tarantula out there?

Yeah, I would gladly pay a few grand for the T Costae, I have been stalking them online since they were discovered, but I have been unable to find a dealer who can provide one.

I didn't know a Pokie could do this?

I have always read "use a shallow water bowl so your spider can get out and not drown." does this mean that is un-true? I have a B. Emilia, as a terrestrial should I rarely flood her container to more closely simulate a natural environment? Or give her something to submerge in?

    Re-housing versus heavy pre-molt

I have heard that stress from feeling exposed in their environment can lead to molting trouble? I just wanted to make sure that the mini burrow thing sha made was not an attempt to make a better hide. I suppose I could just provide her with a few more hides in the mean time. Thanks for the input...

    Re-housing versus heavy pre-molt

I have a 3-4" B. Emilia female who seems to be in pre-molt ( Black spot where hairs were kicked from, webbed up her enclosure pretty heavily and getting quit large) now she attempted to make a burrow and went down about 3" into the eco earth substrate before running into the bottom of the...

What is my Chaco gold knee doing?! (Fudge)

Yeah, there is significant scientific evidence that T's have spatial recognition and memory, some times thay find a "favorite spot" in their enclosure, and just stay there. My B. Emilia spends 99% of her time in the same spot, and she has never had a sign of illness.

Scariest Moment With An Agressive Tarantula

Just another reminder that T's are as individualistic as more neurologically complex animals like dogs and cats. Just after I typed that, I opened her cage and she bolted across it to the other side faster than I thought she was capable of moving!

    Don't mess with her toys

perhaps it could be partially affected by their memory. I have never come across a study on the short or long term memory of spiders but it may be a case of "oh hey look an eggsac thing... oh nope just trash" then a few hours later "hey look an egg sac!" again. If I had a male I would try that...

    Don't mess with her toys

I only have one T and I have never bred so I know nothing about this beyond posts that I've read, but does this mean that having a ping pong ball could induce stress because they try to care for it? I would love to see my T play with one, but I don't want to expose her to something as un natural...

Scariest Moment With An Agressive Tarantula

I have A 4" female B. Emilia. One time I poked her and she almost moved. ALMOST. Haha she is so docile it borders on belligerently stubborn. It gets to the point that I will try to move her off of her water dish so I can clean it and she'll actually hold on to it harder and "lean in" against...

    Don't mess with her toys

Glad to see another curious/scientifically minded person here! It was fascinating to read that, I had always been completely stumped by what could be the evolutionary benefit of "playing" for an extremely low metabolism creature that doesn't have any use for the higher mental facilities that...

    Stilting information collection

Don't know if anyonewill see this since it took me so long to reply, I am a physics major, so I have a tendency to hide in the labs for longer periods of time than my T can spend in its hide! Anyway, Curious Jay, yes it has a tiny waterproof electrical heater in it, it can't go over 85 deg so I...

    Stilting information collection

After finding my 4" female B. Emila stilting (in pre-molt) in her water dish (ceramic 2.5" in diameter with .20-.25 inches of water in it) so that she was over the water but her feet were all mostly touching dry spots, I began to wonder if it meant she was too cold, hot dehydrated or what. Doing...

    Apologising advance for molt question

Oh wow, I suppose I was afraid it would be something like that. I have her set up in a room at 80deg F with a humidifier so hopefully that will hasten the process! Until then I suppose I'll just be seeing a lot less of her while she hangs out in her hide.

    Apologising advance for molt question

As a lurker I grow tired of molt questions always popping up, but just to be a hypocrite I have developed one of my own. I have a 3.5-4" female B. Emilia who has been the un-skittish bordering on stubbornly holding her ground when brushed to check temperament. However in the last week or so she...

    G. Rosea Sleeping or issue?

Reading this made me wonder, DO tarantulas sleep at all? I don't even know how you would go about finding that out in the first place.

Are paper towels safe in an enclosure?

I did take it out today and she went about her business as normal! Thanks McGuverstein, she has proven the species to be an excellent choice for a first T so far!

    Karma

yup! It varies from place to place, but I made sure the farthest she could possibly fall was about 4". She has proven B. Emilia to be an excellent species so far! As I said earlier, I don't intentionally handle her, but I was changing out her water bowl and she walked across her cage and on to...
