i think from all this discussion it's apparent that we don't know enough or have enough data to conclusively say whether inbreeding in tarantula's is detrimental or not.
Ray gives convincing evidence for inbreeding to occur naturally in the wild and that it's also common place within the hobby...
nope, the fibre grew a film of white mold on the surface before i had fed my robustum, and i used plain old tap water from my reasonably modern house.
Ventilation wise it wasn't bad, a lot of area for air exchange since it was just a plain large size kritterkeeper type enclosure.
No one...
i'd go for a smith from your list, everyone's got to have a smithi !
Avic's are cute, but what i really don't like about them is they are very messy as t's go, and poop a lot on the side of the tank.
on the contrary i find that coco fibre moulds really easily. I used it in my M.robustums tank when i moved him, and a white film of mold grew on the surface in a matter of weeks.
Next time i try coco fibre, i think i'll let it air out and dry for a longer period of time before using it in a...
i'm trying to set an amount of T's i keep by food consumption. So as many pet's that will consume roughly 1 tub of crickets a week (including my gecko) :D. T's take up so little space and maintenance compared to other pet's, a collection can easily spiral out of control:)
over a year for my rosie too, it's one of the reason i expanded my collection of T's because buying crickets and trying to keep them alive until she wanted to eat was impossible. I'm trying to expand my collection so that i can go through 1 tub of crickets a week :D
my platyomma pic's i recently "rediscovered" on my pc, these pics were taken soon after it's ultimate molt, i never did find a nice girl for him before the big spider in the sky took him T_T
Peat is indeed a great substrate, because it's acidic, it resists molds quite well compared to stuff like coir. However peatbogs 1000's of years to form (2-3 inchces of peat takes about a century to form! ) and so from an environmental point of view, it's more environmentaly friendly to use an...

haha....i can understand your chinese to english translation but i think "hot heart" from chinese doesn't translate as well to english :p
i'm chinese too ! glad to see more oriental people on the board. I don't think enough of us have discovered the joys of keeping t's :)
i'm a big fan of tupperware, there are most size's to fit all t's and it's cheap and secure. I sometimes also use various jars that have plastic lids for sligs etc.
kellygirl i'd be grateful if you can give me the rough condensed version of the gist of the paper when you have translated it ^^;; particularly how to identify them?
does anyone have a picture? a quick search on the boards and google turned up very little.
i have an oppurtunity to purchase as sling claimed to be an a.azuraklassi, but i have no idea what they look like
god i wished i'd stuck up the eighty quid and got one of these ! i was really happy with the four t's i got that my senses were temporairily overwhelmed and i passed them up >_< i've been having withdrawl symptoms ever since :D i hope they turn up next yr at the bts as well !
i would get a metallica ( i like furry avics :D but i'm biased as mine is very friendly so i have a soft spot for them) or possibly urticans and a purpurea. most of the other avic's in general look pretty similar. i would like them to be more distinct.
