Hi All!!
One of my female D.Diadema females just had her "egg case" hatch! She has been carrying her eggs for at least 6 or 8 months....maybe longer [very long time in my opinion]....I thought they were dead.
Anyway she shares her enclosure with another female and male.. Would it be best to...
I'll cut back on her birdseed then!!! hahahah Just kidding!!
Seriously...your "two cents" is just as good as anybodies!! Maybe what you say does an effect....But why then wouldn't it happen more??? There are many keepers taking great care of their spiders?? Most take "too good" of care...
Well....She is still hanging on to the "sac"!!! I wish I would have noticed this earlier.....I can't really say how long she has had the sac!! She closed herself in at the very least...a month ago!!
I thought she was going to molt......so I let her be with out any further thought!! Curious to...
What I can tell you Advan is...that she is only 2 molts out from being the "sling blue" color she was......and the perception is actually the opposite....the spider is casting a slightly larger shadow on her webbing as the light source is behind her and the tape measure is hooked onto the back...
Right!! Is this just "fluke"?? Or is it "possible" that some want to reproduce younger then we expect?? As far as safety goes.....Keep in mind that she has not been bred....at this time I do not even own a male.....so there couldn't have been a "sexual trigger" so to speak. Also keep in mind...
She is not a breeder either!!hahahah ..She still has her "juvi" stripes ..
Seriously......Who would think that even though very immature..and small.....that this female still has the urge/instinct to reproduce.???
+1...MarkD ....got it going on!!!!
Maybe it's going into premolt......hence ..the hiding..and not feeding?? Your friend should leave it alone....until it feeds....and then leave it alone more!!!
I couldn't agree more!!
Just because they are spiders [and not your playstation or family dog].....Doesn't mean that they are to be disrespected in such a way.
Are you sure her fangs are missing???
If so you may have to prekill and "mush" the crickets up for her until the next molt!! Then she'll get her fangs back!!
