    Araneus sp.

I found this spider in the garage, and I'm thinking it's an Araneus. She had an orb web about 1 1/2 feet in diameter. Sorry I couldn't get a pic of her back- she didn't seem to want to move, and I didn't really want to destroy her web. Can anyone confirm the genus, and possibly the exact species?

(Scared) Newbie- Can you help me ID this guy?

Looks like some type of wolf spider- note the two stripes down the carapace. They're a very large family of spiders, and with the poor quality of the image, it would be very difficult to pin down the exact species. Wolf spiders will rather run away than to bite, but will bite if they feel...

Giant Spiders in the Amazon Rainforest

Recently I've been hearing about the different myths and legends behind giant spiders (5 1/2 foot long) in the Amazon Rainforest. People report children and pets being carried off and eaten. Right now I guess they're knd of like bigfoot- they may be there, but they are not proven to be. Does...

    Jumping Spider

I found this guy crawling across the ceiling. He was fairly large, legspan maybe 5/8 in. I'm not really sure exactly what he is, maybe a Phidippus? Anyone know?

    What is this?

Gnaphosidae? I'm really not sure. They can grow kinda' big. The way the 3rd leg sticks out is diagnostic. I dunno, I could be totally wrong.

    Caterpillars can be deadly

Wow!!! I never imagined a caterpillar could be so dangerous. Here in Michigan I'm not even sure we have caterpillars that could harm you at all. Thanks for the post!

    Spider ID

windscorpions1- A Nursery web spider seems too large, and the same with a Fishing spider. It's most likely some kind of wolfie.

    Spider ID

This little spider seemed very energetic, and barely stopped long enough for me to take a picture. The markings on his back were somewhat similar to a nursery web spider, though it was much smaller. I found him on the beach of Lake Superior farther up in the grass. I'm not really familiar with...

    Geolycosa...?

This spider made it's burrow in a sandy spot near the forest. I'm thinking it's a Geolycosa from comparing it to the pictures of other Geolycosa I took last year. I wasn't able to get a shot of his/her-(not quite sure yet) back, 'cause every time I tried he would go back into his burrow. I know...

    Wolf Spider ID Please

I found this spider on the beach of Lake Superior. Its body was about 1/2 inch long, and its leg span slightly above an inch. Rather than walking along the beach, this spider seemed to jump, along with the occasional step in between. I went out at night and found them even more abundant. I...

Extremely Magnified Wolf Spider Body Parts

I have a wolf spider living in a burrow just outside my house that molted. I was able to get some of the shed skin, and I then looked at it under a microscope. The pictures are not great- I took them with a Nikon Coolpix L20 through the microscope lense. I still thought they were amazing. In the...
