    Hydration from insects only?

I had wondered if they could actually drink from the substrate itself so thanks for adding that. Ok so this is definatelly a debatable issue and I see that molting is probably a very important time for water so thanks. I suppose I will keep watering the substrate for smaller T's and try to...

    Hydration from insects only?

Just wondered if there are conflicting opinions on amount of hydration obtained solely from the Tarantulas feeding on inverts? Obviously they ingest much of the moisture they consume from the a Big Juicy Cricket or wax worms and Dubia. I have tested this a little, by only feeding some of my...

OBT, H. Crassipes, SunTiger, or Indian Violet?

Curtis "reclusive", this is true, but I swear some OBT's never come out, like six months at a time, all my irminia at least show a leg here and there, and most all of them do laps when the temps raise in the day, and they are especially available for a meal(though I think that they plot escape...

OBT, H. Crassipes, SunTiger, or Indian Violet?

OBT builds anything from tunnels in the dirt to Cathedrals of Webbing. P. Irminia, (Suntiger), will be a lot more visible, but has a generally routine style of tunnels under small web hides around structure. Get three of each. Just DO NOT think you are faster than either, Eight Legged...

    OBT trouble

Have you tried various food items. Wax worms seem to fatten up a T nicely, mealworms are not bad either but tend to burrow if the head is not removed, and B. dubia are super easy to breed and care for and make an excellent choice as they vary in size for all your various size T's.

The better to web you with.

Recently I have added a one too three inch layer of spaghnum moss to most of my T enclosures. The ones who have it all used it in their burrows and even in their arboreal tunnel/slings. They seem to keep a better consistency than those without and when mixed with peat moss it seems to keep...

    Super Slow Growing Species?

A for my slowest growers, A. versicolor slings are my slowest arboreal,) the P. irminia have quadroupled them in same time, and pokies, P. miranda even faster)). As for terrestrials, Aphonopelma. hentzi are pretty fast growers gaining a good size in each molt and have molted around five times...

    Are T's considered Exotic pets?

Read the lease, as for exotic, anything that is not native is theoretically exotic; fish, hamsters, arachnids(yes though not a native species). So look the lease over and if it is not in the lease and there is no clause stating that the apartment managers or owners can choose for themselves...

Reactions to low temps from different species

Obviously cold slows them down this is not argued. As for specific metabolic rates for the 900+ different species, when you start to record them make sure you share that info. Obviously some seem more perceptive to medium range temperature drops, as my house drops substantially at night, then...

    A. versi bad molt QUESTION

You know I figured that getting it would be pretty easy, how do I hold a one inch sling without squashing it like a bug, and rub off the molt at the same time? I think my table vice may squish him(joke don't hate). Other than that wife wont touch them, and my eight and nine year old are eager...

    A. versi bad molt QUESTION

My one inch A. versicolor molted about two days ago, it has been in it's sling in the same position for a couple days after. Not dead but not walking around and I noticed today that a couple small pieces of skin are left attached to the abdomen. I was wondering the best reaction as my searches...

    Vote arachnid

OK peoples, we all don' t see eye to eye, but we can all agree that instead of an Ass or an Elephant, we should just vote for Psalmopeus irminia as the next president, and get a couple pokies in the house and senate. Maybe an OBT as vice president, it has to come out of its hole more than...

Lasiadora parhybana male not sure how long ago he mated, still very active and healthy. So how long does he still have on average after his last molt to do his thing, obviously this changes per species but I just wondered about sending him out for breeding, if he is still good. Or I have a...

What does a pet store have to do to win your business and trust as an invert hobbyist?

Fill the customer with more info then they need, and don't charge ten cents or more a cricket, make some but don't try to get rich off feeders, which u cant be paying more than a couple cents each for. The more people who can afford feeders, the more they will start to purchase animals which...

    Check out this wal-mart find!

I have tried to find decent display cubes at Wal-Mart many times to no avail, but these are sweet. About five bucks, and they had smaller ones. Much thicker than the container store display cubes and the lid kind of seals on. Here are pics they are the big three, compare size and thickness to...

    Just plain mean

Maybe the person was sold a Theraphosa blondi at the pet store, and maybe the pet store bought it as a T. blondi at the reptile dealer, and the reptile dealer who knows little about T's got twenty of these shipped in as T. blondi. Who knows the trade on adult herps and verts can be so skechy...

Does music affect my T's at all?

I have wondered and been watching results from this for a little while. It seems that for whatever reason it makes mine more active, be it the actual music they hear or just the vibrations of the music is hard to say. I have about forty on a shelf together and they for sure move more with...
