    H. Lividium substrate question

Oh boy. I haven't been on or posted for some time. How refreshing :D. I'm actually working on a long-term keeping project relating to humidity and other factors in the enclosure relative to tarantula health. Not going to get into details of that, nor get into any suggestion as of yet because...

I think the H pulchripes may have a rival for most stunning old world

Beauty is always a matter of opinion, and H. pulchripes is assisted by it's rarity and difficulty to obtain. The more you can't afford something and have to stare at pictures of it, the prettier it gets. Personally I think, in my unbiased and realistic opinion, that plenty of T's rival that...

The TARANTULA BIBLIOGRAPHY :: NOVEMBER Release :: Bumba & Psalmopoeus victori

They also named the spider after John Lennon, interestingly enough.

sling enclosure tops - screw vs. pop/peel

I think Poec pretty much covered what I would say. Containers are always temporary for a growing spider, and for price and application you really can't beat deli cups. I'm not too fond of getting the lids popped without shaking the container, but after a while you get the hang of doing it...

    New tarantula questions

lol like the old school method. ---------- Post added 09-12-2014 at 10:58 AM ---------- It did, and there's still a chance for that, however small. Also have to consider it came from BWR, which probably gave it a horrible home to begin with.

    New tarantula questions

Research would mean you wouldn't have purchased from BWR and possibly have gotten the exact T you wanted. You have to expect to get some grief for that, so take it with a grain of salt. Continue researching and be wise about your sources. Many new keepers research or claim to, but they...

What happened to my old T.stirmi?

Would be good to have pictures of the whole spider, and of the mouth parts. The dented abdomen was likely just the result of dehydration and famine from the inability to use the mouth to ingest food and water.

    G. pulchra burrowing

    G. pulchra slings are fantastic burrowers, but you must resist the urge to dig them up. If it seals itself up, it's preparing for a molt. Interrupting a molt by destroying the burrow could prove fatal. They can easily go underground without food for 6 weeks or more before coming out freshly...

Bisected Hair Growth on Rosehaired Tarantula

Lol I wouldn't get too excited. The emphasis on tarantulas and care regimen there I found to be rather lacking, or outdated to put it more accurately. This T was a highlight of my visit, but viewing some of the other tarantulas was somewhat of an upsetting experience. The workers are...

Bisected Hair Growth on Rosehaired Tarantula

Paid a visit to the Insectarium over the weekend and met Sarah, and laid eyes on this tarantula. Really a sight to behold. Not sure if she's molted since this thread was started, but she is alive and seemingly well.

    Fat chaco

From the pic of her it looks like she could be darkening up to molt. If she buries herself, let her, and wait for her to re-emerge. Might have a bigger spider when you do. Barricading the burrow is a means to stay safe during the molt process, during which they are helpless and incapable of...

Difference Between G Rosea and G Porteri

I'm not sure of any publications, but in one of the earlier threads somebody referenced differences in the stridulatory organs. Went diggin and found one of the places it was posted. As far as I know, this little tid bit is all we have so far...

    Chilobrachys Sericeus exist?

Chilobrachys sericeus seems to exist as it was photographed by Rick West and posted on his site. There's always the chance the ID is off, however, no matter how good the identifier may be. One thing is for certain, it is not available in the hobby (as it has not been photographed by any...

    Help!! B Smithi Injury??!!

You could add to the cyst reports as she progresses. I'm sure they're out there, but you are the only other person I've seen aside from myself that has had a T with a cyst on the sternum. Mine was a P. irminia, and I put him in the cyst reports. He behaved normally and molted out of it the...

    So I made an application...

I bailed on iOS. Android ftw! Yeah the developer of itarantula posted on here back when it was created, but just bailed on it shortly after. The platform was a very good start. Had a nice database of info he had gathered for many kinds of Ts, and your basic care tabs for your collection...

    So I made an application...

It was okay when it released, but the developer seemed to just bail on it. It's very basic, and therefore sucks lol.. Thanks tisha! Super excited to try the new features :)

    Male H. maculata chelicerae

Agree with Poec here. I just read this and the first thing that came to my attention was the legs. Like pipe cleaner brushes. Def MM. Congrats :) I have a female but I'm going to wait for one more molt to pair her.

2 weeks into owning Ts. I keep trying to improve their enclosures but they are miserable.

Makes sense enough lol. This is to adjust the spider to your spring time after the hemisphere switch. If you don't go crazy about climate controlling the room they are in, the natural temperature increase in the household from spring and the slight humidity rise should do the trick.

2 weeks into owning Ts. I keep trying to improve their enclosures but they are miserable.

There is lots of inconsistent information on many species. Many have experience and don't always agree as well, but we agree on the basics at least. The rosie was using the log like it was the walls and lid. If you really prepared the coco fiber in the cage like you stated, it will take ages...
