Thanks Stan, a great read as always.
Living in Ireland, I have always worried that the cold would affect my T's so I always have a heat matt attached to the side of the cage and always register temps of 20C. Maybe ill try changing this now but maybe my 7+ year old GBB and Rosea are happy with...
I keep my T. blondi in a bone dry cage and she seems to survive well enough. She can be seen doing the backstroke in the dish regularly but has done very well in that dry environment.
I agree that you should always try to mimic the T's natural habitat but I believe them to be very hardy little...
I've had this problem before with both my goliath, cobalt and fort hall baboon.
I believe my fort hall died as a result of them. Do not worry too much though as that little guy had odd circumstance with being donated to me from pet store after being returned in terrible state.
I stopped...

I have a blondi too that has been jet black since its last moult a 2 months ago. Mine also has a "scab" on its abdomen since that nobody could identify.:(

I went to alot of hastle to make a burrow for my GBB and the git never used it. I had a grameliad(cant spell) plant in there too and it webbed itself a little tunel around the base of the plant, using it for support. worked out really nice and it looks so much better than a burrow.
Its been...
When i got my G. rosea from a pet store it had a small white mark similar to that on its leg. I thought it was mould or fungus of some kind because of the very damp container she came in. it could have been poo.
She was, at that stage, not bothered by me holding her so i got a damp paper towel...
I thought it may have been some sort of infection that had developed under the exo. Before the last moult I could clearly see a round dark patch that covered this area. Before the moult I could see him webbing, since then, I see him try. Both spinnerets move independently and quite freely but...
Hey,
Sorry to have to resurrect this post but I have an update to the issue with the white butt of my blondi.
It seems that he is unable to spin any form of webbing since the moult. The spinnerets are fully intact and when he eats you can clearly see him waving his but around trying to lay...
The rescued P. lugardi that i got in march last year has died tonight.
When i got him, he was in a bad way with only 5 legs and a mite problem.
The guy made it through a moult and i thought i had rid him of the mites. He seemed to be doing great until the last week when he became very slow...
When i first got my H. lividum I had a bit of a problem with mites on it. Pet store wouldnt do anything so i decided to keep it to see what happens but i changed its tank to very dry. I agrree that they should be kept the way David F has said.
I had alot of problems with the dry soil as the...
Hi All,
Great news is that my blondi managed a seemless moult last night and i was lucky enough to witness the whole thing. Even if it did take 4 hours. this is the first moult i have seen and its pretty impressive on such a large spider.
My question is for all the blondi keepers out...
I got a P. lugardi as a rescue from my local pet store. It was returned by a customer that didnt know what to do with it. I never really found a real caresheet for these guys but all advise i was given at the time was to treat them the same a P. murinus.
They seem very hardy as the guy i got...
