it is just as possible that he is close to molting as it is you just spooked him with the cricket. that is a big bare butt so i wouldnt be surprised if a molt is around the corner. most my NW terrestrials usually get the bare spot then it dulls before hand. actually caught my smithi molting...
the back story: I just recently renovated my basement. it is an older house and it had a room separated from the main area for the fuel oil tank. after too many hours of cutting and siphoning fuel i managed to clear it out. the room is 5' by 8'. three walls are concrete block with a small window...
i apologize to the mods, this should have gone some where else so please move it.
here is an included pic to show everyone exactly what im talking about.
a buddy of mine purchased some of these months ago from (i believe) gregsexoticinverts . he had them for a few months and never saw a nymph. just a few weeks ago he gave me 6 of them to use as feeders for my larger T's. i fed off all but 2 in the last few weeks. tonight i went to grab one to...
i had always been interested but, about 10 years ago on a whim i decided to buy a G. rosea while visiting a local pet shop. It was more of a display pet than anything else, and it worked out great with my lifestyle at the time. i was working on the road doing construction and didnt make it home...
i just wouldnt be concerned (i know it's difficult). sounds like the conditions are right. just wait it out. even though i havnt seen the one sling in 3 weeks i still toss in a maimed cricket every week and take it out the next day. i have noticed as my other slings have gotten larger they have...
i have an lp sling that i havnt seen in about 3 weeks. doesnt seem uncommon to me at all. my adult lp usually webs up the entrance to her hide just before a molt.
do not use cardboard. bad idea. go to walmart or target or wherever and buy a plastic container. it will save you the headache of chasing a T through your house some morning before work. lol
if you really have to rehouse it, i would wait a few more days myself. i had an lp sling that needed rehousing. it was also burrowed pretty deep in its enclosure. i just carefully moved substrate around until it "popped out". seems happy in its new home 1 week later.
you could get a piece of acrylic cut it to size then cut the bottom 6 inches or so off. secure that to the container then throw some hinges on it. just a thought.
thanks man. my list has gotten a little shorter this week. i also got a b. smithi sling and tomorrow im going to pick up an h. mac. its been a good week!
received my order from Jamiestarantulas this morning. i usually have everything shipped to my office so there is never a chance of missing anything.
This guy here came out swinging. as soon as i got the paper towel out from the vial he took off. i thought ahead and had my catch cup and a piece...
all that it really amounts to is taking the ocular lens from the binoculars and securing it over the camera lens somehow. i made a mount for the lens using a broken toy i stole from my kids.
