I recently bought 3 hermit crabs, and have them in the following enclosure. a 50 fallon tank, it has a pool in it, about 1 1/2 gallons, that they can get in and out of for freshwater, a smaller, 1/2 gallon dish for saltwater, 80% eco-earth, 20% playsand, a huge half-log i bought from petco, lots...
I got a few questions to ask:
im thinking aboiut (in the future, not soon) trading my female for a pure-colored one, or buying one at a petstore, to re-breed with my male. Because the thing is, all my babies came out fine and all, but all i got was albino (red eyes) Black and white, or brown...
I already enjoy them :) The only porblem is, the female and babes stink...reeaaaally bad. you can smeel them in the other room when the tops off....is there any substiute for aspen shavings i can use temporarily?
Exactly 5 days. they haven't opened their eyes, but are moving about like crazy already. im using a 50 gallon storage tub with a big hide for momma and her babies.
Im just gonna go over thither...for a while....:?
Haven't updated in a loong time, so here's some pics:
Socrates and Leela's kids....14 that is. someone's gonna be paying child support for a while:
Here's the new cage for my 3 girls, socrates is living here for now:
There's 14 pups alltogether, im keeping 2-3 females to go with...
   i want one of those hairless rats sooo bad!
Tomorow im getting more bedding for my male, and hopefully a nice, big two story cage for him, and only him for now :)
Also, when my female has babies, what are the odds ill get a hairless? i reaaally want one:razz:
I decided to start a new thread, this way i can put all my rat pictures on here, instead of confusing others with my "rat keeping" thread.
A big thanks to everyone who helped me with them, and a big thanks to fierce Deity too!
I named the male Socrates, and would like some suggestions for...
Ok...so how long do i leave my male with me female? i just want them to breed, and remove him. its been a day and they havn't showed any signs of breeding YET.
Well i got them today :)
I got a brown and white female, and black and white male (or vise versa)
i have them in a 2x2x 1 1/2ft tall cage. its only 1 story, but very spacy. i gave them a bug food dish, some rat food i bought, a huge igloo they both sleep in, and a big cardboard...
OK, i think ive made up my mind.
I found this website http://www.qualitycage.com/rat.html
Which cage in here could house two adults? i think ill get two cages, one to house two adult females, and one to house two adult males. And hwn i want to breed. just put in a male, or both of them...
Hi,
Im thinking about getting into rats :D
I've had MUCH help from you guys here on AB, from roaches, to my first pede, etc. I thought this would be my best bet to start for this, too.
I'd like all the info i need. I'm planning on starting with 2-4 Small sized rats, and plan on...
Im sure it matters on the conditions, too. Someone inexoperienced may hold a hungry subspinipes, or accidently squeeze it, drop it, or other things that might piss it off, and cause it to bite.
I totally agree with bob. If you have HK giants or ANY subspinipes sp. i definately wouldn't start with them. Try Ethostigmus sp, S. polymorpha, or small centipedes you find in wooded areas.
Also, just because it's "cool" watching them eat mice, doesn't mean it's "safe". you can greatly...
Hi,
Both of those mentioned are great for beginners. i prefer the Chinese red head (Scolopendra mutilans) because of it's size, and not-so-horrible temperment. along with the fact that they've Known to be communal. Good luckw ith your chocie.
I find millions of them around a certain type of tree, and certain type of bush during the summer...usually they are mating (male and female attacthed) and walking around. When it warms up, i'll snap more than a few pics to share.
NICE!!! could you please post a picture or two of the entire enclosure? i have only 3 right now...and am trying to perfect their cage as much as possible. thanks for sharing!!
