Just checked in after a few years. I remember the the tarantula that lived in a hole. Still finding neat insects you have a bunch of neat insects there.
@Magrock These trapdoor slings are native to my area so I released them in a safe spot where I know there are others not far where the adults where found
I don't know why they climb up the side of enclosure and sit for a few days but about all of my hentzis have done that. The good news they are very hardy tarantulas as long as I have been keeping them I have only lost a few slings (these were runts that just wouldn't eat and died during molt)...
Similar species have in a way been cross breeding for millions of years. We know it as evolution. How else would we have similar species with different traits. For the most part most species have different reproductive organs where other species can't breed.
I do not support mankind trying to...
I don't keep centipedes because they have proven that they are smarter than me.
you can look everywhere but it is always the family member that fears all bugs that always finds it first just follow the blood curdling screams you will find it.
lay news papers out on the floor and listen for it...
I had one eat one of my lose 1/4" size crickets. Found the cricket hanging 3 inches off the floor after closer inspection is when I noticed the cellar spider. The 1/4" cricket cricket was about the full leg span of the cellar spider. Havnt seen the spider since.
High co2 poisoning sounds valid especially since they tend to live in dense foliage up in the canopy the foliage would convert a lot of the co2 to oxygen in there natural habitat. So even if live plants were to only add a little to air movent there ability to exchange co2 to oxygen makes live...
Cross ventilation is just ensuring that air is pulled across enclosure air typically wants to travel pretty much strate up unless there is some type of cross current involved. I am not sure but a plant creating more oxygen rich environment may also contribute to more air movement?
The biggest influence on air movement is the sun creating thermal just heating a surface causing the air to rise faster. A rain forest with high canopies and less sun light available to the ground level the air is slower to rise and create a lot of air movement create more humidity at ground...
Experiment. Iam also curious about the airflow difference could probably use smoke (without tarantula in enclosure) at the lower intake of enclosure to see if it is pulled into enclosure and how much? Mabe on our diy enclosures we need to put holes lower on one side and higher but not all the...
Our local home depot quit carrying the earthgrow brand and switched to timberline's top soil. I haven't bought any baged soil in over a year but Iam pretty sure that earthgrow would have fixed there issues by now since loseing customers over it they did get a lot of negative reviews back then. I...
My post wasn't directed at you it was a general opportunity to explain to others why hygrometers are not suited for tarantulas. There have been many posters with these devices attached to their enclosures just in the last few weeks.

What's with all the hygrometer hate
anyways? :D haha!
Because you will end up chasing a magic number on the hygrometer that changes every 45 minutes and if it shows no change all day that means you have either no airflow or way to much moisture both bad for the...
In the US we really do have a fine postal service in general but sometimes there is that one postal worker that is pissed at the world and takes it out on our packages and writing live inverts or fragile on a box is painting a target for his aggression. Very sad
I have only one bad experience...
Definitely don't want cataracts you think tarantula setae are bad I had cataract surgeries and they actually stick scapuls and needles in your eye to insert implants. But when you have been completely blind for the last 8 months in 2011 needles and scapuls aren't that bad. Eye pressure itself...
