I was very recently given an avic that was supposedly imported as A. metallica and looks absolutely identical to your specimen - photographs the same way as well. I will be interested to see what others have to say about your spider :)
When the first ball python morphs were making an appearance (Albino, piebald, pastel) the price of normal females skyrocketed. Things are leveling out and stabilizing. Albinos are just a few hundred now instead of several thousand. I mean...I remember when albino leopard geckos were a few...
The morphs are priced at the point at which they will sell. Again, supply and demand - and I do not see why you care if you hate them so much.
I see nothing wrong with breeding and cultivating morphs that will not be released into the wild. It's a hobby, and an art. If you don't like them...
If you hate morphs so much, why are you bothered by their price?
It's simply supply and demand. If there are suddenly hognose morphs available, the price for normal animals (especially females) will rise as more people show interest in working with the species. There are people buying up entire...
My mother is extremely arachnophobic. I had to wait until I moved out, and I accepted it with grace - she was kind enough to allow me all kinds of critters, every reptile under the sun etc. Just no spiders.
If you cannot convince her, if she is like my mother, for example, accept it and wait...
I've kept them long term, and even got babies from a female once (live birth, got to watch the whole thing). I never, ever got any to eat rodents.
The babies would only eat fish...
Very cool species. I am doubting the specimen in question is CB.
Hi guys -
I hope these pictures will help.
His second to last molt:
I'm not sure how much these will help, as he would absolutely not sit still in light strong enough to get a decent picture.
Hi guys, when I went to take pictures I was distracted by a phone call and the molt was destroyed in an Act of Dog (my whippet ate it). However I believe I have an older one, and if not i will take pictures of the specimen itself when I am home from work.
And no, it has no band on the abdomen.
If you need better light, or a better view of the legs I should be able to soak it so nothing breaks, and have time for a picture in good sunlight tomorrow.
Some people are short, some are tall - but few are genetically a dwarf, or stunted because something wasn't right environmentally.
If it's normal for males to mature this small though (barely 4") then that is then answer I am looking for.
I was unable to positively ID this pokie, so he will not be bred regardless. He was sold as a pederseni but developed yellow on his legs.
I was expecting him to molt, but NOT mature.
This year is my first go with pokies. Is this kind of thing normal? Is there a cause?
Bedbug infestations can be psychologically difficult - but you have to remember that this can happen to anyone, anywhere. And you cannot control your neighbors. I hope it's dealt with soon and you can have a good night's sleep again.
I disagree vehemently that they are easy to contain. I used to work for a company that dealt with co-ops and apartment complexes, and if every unit around the one with bugs wasn't treated, or ideally the WHOLE complex, they would be back without fail.
You need to tell the office/your landlord...
You have, I believe, not understood your tarantula's body language and stress signs and continue to handle an animal under duress because you find it amusing...
It was clearly staged. The environments looked like sets, they used species that are easily obtainable and I highly doubt they spent weeks/months/years (and $$$$) waiting and following a spider around waiting for it to find what they wanted to film it killing.
You might want to research these...
There is nothing wrong with supporting a business that looks after their charges PROPERLY. Why would there be? If the animals are properly looked after and appropriate advice is given to customers, go ahead and shop there. Expect to pay that markup - they are trying to make a profit. I'd rather...
I watched the whole thing when this thread was started. They also stage 'hunting' of an adult mouse and nestling birds. On top of killing the rattlesnake earlier, I'm a bit disturbed they would pointlessly kill that many animals for a nature documentary. Normal movies have higher standards :/
