The one and only time I've gone to a Petco, I figured I'd look and see if they had any tarantulas for the heck of it. They had one juvie to sub-adult G. rosea kept in horrible conditions. Not only that, but on the print out with the animal info and care it had the scientific name labeled as...
My A. versicolor, B. vagans, and B. smithi all molted last night in that order. The versi is still holed up in her web hide that she loves so much, so I haven't gotten a good look at her. The other two are looking great, though!

About an hour before I went to bed last night I noticed my G. pulchripes sling most of the way up its burrow on its back. The first thing I did when I woke up this morning was check on it, and sure enough, it had molted. I haven't gotten to see it stretched out yet, so I'm unsure how much length...
The very first tarantula I had was actually my brother's when we were younger. Someone had caught one locally and ended up not being able to keep it, so they offered it to my brother. I had no idea what species it was back then, but now I believe it was an Aphonopelma hentzi.
-My- first...
I don't know what you want me to -explain- about them, but I'll try. All you need to do is buy a colony of them (there are a number of sites which sell them), prepare the culture kit (if necessary), shake a couple flies out, and put them in the enclosure for the spider to eat.
Anyways, for that...
New T's!
My female A. versicolor juvie and 2 P. cambridgei slings arrived today! All of them arrived healthy and alert, so I'm really happy.
The versi was really calm and just strolled into her new home, which she's been exploring. Thankfully, all went well with the cambridgei slings. I did...
Shush, you!
It really is an addicting hobby, though. The only thing I worry about is figuring out how to transfer them when I move to Cali. and finding a place that will let me keep them. Not looking forward to that.
Next week I'll also be getting: 2.25" female A. versicolor and two .5"-.75" P. cambridgei. Both species are within my top five favorite T's, so I'm really excited!
The T fever hit me pretty hard. I find myself "window shopping" for T's almost every day. Sooo many I want to buy. haha
I have a small collection so far, but I would have to say that currently my B. vagans sling is my favorite. I love watching it stalk its prey during feeding time, and it's such a little pig about it. It also has a burrow but spends most of its time out in the open to observe, unlike my B. albo...
I got to experience my very first molt today!
My little B. albopilosum sling apparently molted on me while I was at work. Darker exoskeleton and gained some decent size. It went from ~.4" to ~.6", though I haven't been able to get a very good look at it stretched out yet.
Yeah, they really are addictive. There are so many other T's I want as I grow more experienced, like the P. cambridgei that I'm absolutely in LOVE with. I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow maybe, though I don't know how well that's going to go with the tiny slings.
superfunTtime, the dealer...
