Sounds good to me.
It's definitely a ravenous critter; it ate half of a F/T fuzzy mouse that my monitor didn't eat. I'm hoping to purchase another three at the next show & start a little breeding group if they'll get along.
I recently acquired this centipede as a "Vietnamese centipede," so I believe that it's a Scolopendra subspinipes ssp. of some sort. I think that it's a S. s. dehaani, but I want a second opinion from some more experienced keepers before I label it as such.
I apologize for the poor picture...
The name changes are needed in order to match their true identity. It doesn't help to have two scientific names for one species as is often the case with some "discoveries," and the incorrect naming further complicates classification and such. I'm guessing that Avicularia was used as a "dumpster...
Ohio doesn't have any laws regarding tarantulas as of now, but I see such a law coming in the future based on the recent proposed bill regarding large snakes and venomous reptiles.
That's why I've decided to forgo trying to do them by myself. Now I'm buying the from a venomous snakebite expert/RN who does bite protocols for venomous snakes and has done one on P. striata as well as some scorpions; he has access to more medical journals and stuff like that than I do, so it's...
The protocols are going to include the LD50 (if available), average and maximum venom yield, recommended treatment in the case of a severe bite, and stuff like that. It seemed like a good idea to me to get these made after I read about InvertFix's OBT bite as well as when I read a P. striata...
I'm getting species-specific bite protocols made for my Old World species, so it might be worth doing the same just in case you run into the same situation as InvertFix or worse; I figure that I may as well have a guide for the doctor to follow in case something goes very wrong in the event of a...
I wouldn't do it with that species of chameleon, especially considering the current weather conditions. Some other species might be fine for 2nd day shipping once the weather is consistently warmer, but I still wouldn't try that with that species.
Interesting.
I will have to try that out once I get my adult enclosure shelving unit completed; I'd probably put a few pieces of red theater gel over the light, though, just to be sure that only red light is emitted (since it blocks most of the spectrum besides red).
Just don't get bitten while you're pregnant and keep everything for the tarantulas separate from the baby. Remember that while a tarantula bite will be of little to no consequence to a healthy adult, it is far more dangerous in the case of a small child simply due to the difference in body size...
He definitely seems like a hack. Besides, his website appears to have been designed by an eccentric four year old; it's also worth noting that there appears to be no mention of him ever obtaining a doctorate in anything.
Jeff Goldblum could pull that look off without looking like a tool though.
