Hey guys,
Does anybody have any good strategies for safely transfering very defensive tarantulas? I have a suntiger who is obnoxiously defensive and I'd just like to hear some outside opinions before I go about trying to move her to a new cage.
Thanks!
I don't know about wood turtles, but I used to help take care of a large Russian Tortoise at a wildlife refuge I worked at. Every time I would take a cart full of supplies through the refuge, he would sneak up, crawl under it and tip it over while I wasn't looking. I thought it was just natural...
Hey Pitbulllady! I love the response, and I agree with nearly everything you say. I would presume that during your breeding practices, you look for traits in your dogs that include health standards. You wouldn't want a dog that couldn't run, had arthritis issues, spinal problems, hip displasia...
I might be in the minority on this, but I've had many tarantulas before and hands down, the most aggressive was my P. Irminia. She was a threat displaying, teleporting, tongs grabbing, cricket munching terror on eight legs. Still my favorite out of all of them though!
Pre-molt can take a few weeks with any tarantula. He'll molt eventually: be patient. Pre-molt can feel like it lasts forever, especially when its your first tarantula! Also, (and I only say this because you're new) BE CAREFUL with this particular subset of spiders. A bite from a Pokie can leave...
Logic and common sense are unfortunately becoming rarer as the years go on. While laws are put in place barring ownership on pitbulls, people neglect to see that the most common and serious dog bites are caused by Labradors and Chihuahuas. Also, in genetic testing, we've found that nearly every...
I wouldn't worry about it. I have one tarantula that not only fills his water dishes with dirt, but buries them as well. During cage transfers, it begins to turn into this "find the buried treasure water dishes" game. There's always a couple moments where I'm like "Oh, that's where it went!!!"
Take it to the vet anyway. Its gonna need medical care either way. Tell them its not your cat, that you have no money and that you just happened to find it when it found the back wheel of your jeep. Most vets will work on it anyway and might even keep it themselves. United humanitarians is one...
Was getting ready to feed my suntiger tarantula the other day. She was sitting with her legs facing out in her corkbark hide and I offered her a cricket using my ten-inch tongs. Instead of grabbing the cricket and strolling back into her hide like she normally does, she violently grabbed the...
Everything Yoda said too. Also you can check the abdomen: as long as it looks round and plump without any indentations or wrinkles then he's probably fine. Just keep offering food about once a week or every two weeks, and if he doesn't eat, remove the food item. My Rosea's would all go on long...
Tarantulas can live well at a variety of different temperatures and do perfectly fine. I would just be reasonable: don't keep them too far below 70 or above 80. Keep in mind that high temperatures are much more likely to injure a tarantula than low temperatures.
