i just got a GBB sling about two weeks ago and the critter has stopped webbing. ;P
thanks for the advice about bone dry and taking out the water dish.
good to know.
"be sure to put a sponge in the water dish so the T doesn't drown."
i looked at the gal and said "you're serious"
she replied she was and looked so sincere that i couldn't help but laugh. i told her i didn't have a 'pool' of water in the tank and i was certain my T would be fine.
she...
i believe if you read closely, takenlate was simply trying to see if the female would accept the male, which i think he proved. scroll to the top of the thread.
i second that!
a T in the wild will eat at any opportunity because it doesn't know when the next meal will happen to pass by. a captive T doesn't know the difference.
stick to the one or two crix a week rule and remove anything that isn't eaten in 24 hours.
ants are VERY bad for Ts. one ant ok, even two ok
but those critters will team up and take down a T
heck! in africa there is a breed that will take down a goat
no kidding
glad you got the problem under control, i would suggest ant traps all around the room, might help a recurrence...
Good Luck
start close to the tank/cage and be meticulous about your search
and get rid of the cat for a few days, the cat will surely kill the T and possibly eat it. if so, the cat will get sick and possibly die. not a good scenario for either pet.
it may eventually turn up on its...
don't want to feed too much either :shame: you may want to cut back a bit
a fat over fed T can injure themselves more easily and tends to have a shorter life span
i give 'mini presentations' where i work cause i have a T by my desk. i always cover the basics:
yes all Ts have the potential to bite however this breed (g rosea) is more docile :)
yes Ts have venom but not enough to kill a human :wicked:
yes i will handle them but only if it is a calm...
there is more to look for than a dark patch (which is normally on the abdomen).
loss of appetite, like not eating for weeks after normally eating one or two crix a week and look for a 'molt mat', the T will literally spin a 'web bed' to lay on
you might also try using the search feature...
yikes!
well you already know don't feed it anymore but i think it looks REALLY stressed out. i suggest covering the enclosure with a towel to help keep it dark and quiet and maybe the T will relax. keep the water dish full but try not to disturb the poor thing for a few weeks.
OH - and...
Back to Woolywoo!
i had a rosie 'fast' for 57 days and then it only ate two crix every couple of weeks. maybe it has a tummy ache
i haven't seen many Ts drink but they do - just not when you are watching :p
PS - T&C it sounds like your T is indeed old and dying, so sorry
Keywords
what keywords are you using in your search??
perhaps try these:
Sweden exotic animal laws
tarantula breeding laws in Sweden
import export tarantulas Sweden
hope that helps ;)
Twelve
the first T i ever had ( b smithi) would attack and consume 12 crix in a setting, keep all of them in his mouth and leave not a trace anywhere - and he would do that about once a week! (this was before i was educated about eating habits)
i swear it looked like a crix pin...
