I have both. My P. Metallica is not of the stereotypical "hide in the dark" nature. I don't know if this is a normal behavior or if it's a hyped up one that has just come to be accepted, but mine is nearly always out. I see more of my P. Met than I do of my M. Balfouri because the Balfouri webs...
I got a sling for 125. I was torn between that and an idiothele mira for equal price, but the balfouri wound up winning because I have wanted one for longer. I personally haven't seen a balfouri in person or online for less than 200 and haven't seen a mira less than 225 (online).
I just wanted to share that today I got to purchase a M. Balfouri from Robert Brians for an awesome price at the reptile super show in San Diego. I have wanted one of these for quite a while and I wanted to say thanks Robert! If you have a chance to get to the show, there are some awesome deals...
The most current molt is when it became an electric teal-ish color with a red rump and the same color "teal-ish" spot on it rump. Before this most current molt was when it's black stripe pattern was still clearly visible. When I first received it, it was all blue with the exception of the black...
Sorry for the late reply, I fed it anywhere from once to twice a week (crickets at first, dubias later.)I believe it to be a female, but it's hard because she always webs her corner up and makes her reproduction parts less visible. With that being said, I think it's a her. From the cheap gear I...
+1. Almost all of my terrariums are modified from Michaels with the exception of one. Those plus a 35 dollar dremel and you are saving yourself a good bit of money.
I didn't keep a record of the size increases that came along with each molt, but I can tell you the dates of the molts, since I have had mine, and that currently around 4" and that it was around .75" when I received it.

Hope that helps a bit.
I purchased a P Metallica when it was a bit under an inch. I posted a similar question before buying asking people's opinion on whether or not they were worth the money. In your case, I would not purchase the 4" unsexed T. If you have made the decision to spend all that money on one T, why not...
Does anyone happen to know what tarantula dealers will be at the San Diego Reptile Super show this year? I know there were around 5 last year, but I was relatively new to the hobby then and don't remember aynone aside from Tarantula Inc.
I love mine too, even though she thought it funny to poo on my hand while I was holding her with my wife watching. Probably my favorite species of T so far.
My mother when she saw my terrarium in my room with my first T in it. She acted very similar to bradd pitt in the end of se7en but was not waiving a 45 around.
I have a sling cambridgei as well and I was wondering if I was doing something wrong as well when mine burrowed. However, since its last molt, it has come out of hiding and is living up high now. I read that it's not abnormal for this species as a sling to burrow.
My wife names all of mine. It tricks her into allowing me to get more, so it works for both of us.
Chromatopelma-Jelly Bean-due to its wild colors and reminding my wife of looking at a jar of assorted jelly beans
Versicolor-Grinch-due to my telling her as an adult it will be green and red and...
