Responded to your message, but I'll put it up here too. I have mine in a large Kritter Keeper with lots of pieces of styrofoam and a couple pieces of cardboard eggcrate on top for if any larvae want to pupate there. The beetles won't eat the styrofoam, so you'll want to throw in something...
From what I've heard (no personal experience, so take with a grain of salt), Platymeris bites are worse than Psytalla. Not sure if it's the differences in the chemical cocktail they inject when biting or something else. That said, agreed with what everyone said above that they are very unlikely...
I'd say your care is correct, I kept G. missouriensis several years ago and they did very well with 6"+ of sandy substrate. I think the care is relatively straightforward, the key now is just not stressing the females out too much so that the sacs can hatch. If they've constructed burrows then...
That's pretty cool, thanks for sharing them! That's a group I've always kind of wondered about since I come across them fairly regularly while out collecting.
Looks like Scudderia, but at early instars they're hard to ID to species. It could also be another phaneropterine katydid. There are several species in California (assuming that's where the moss came from).
I'd keep them separate, but otherwise standard recluse care seems to work well. I've got mine in small deli cups with a piece of paper towel and haven't had any issues.
I'd be shocked if one bit you, it's much more likely to teleport up to the ceiling than anything else lol. Shouldn't be medically significant, agreed with what Snark said.
That's probably an easier way to go at it, but I know that a lot of common species in the hobby molt without much issue, it's just Hadrurus for whatever reason. But either way, if you're just starting out you might as well minimize the hassle.
