    A Spider Newbie

My rosie did the same thing (web up its bark) about 2 weeks after I purchased it. Each day the webbing became more and more abundent until you couldn't even see inside. Then I went on vacation for a week and when I came back it had completed a molt.

    Weird Rosea!

My redknee did something like this a few weeks ago. Same situation with it on the side of the tank, maybe it was just gravity or something. Its fine and healthy so I don't think its a problem. If anything I think it would lay on the dirt if it had a problem with its abdomen.

So I cooked my versicolor....Someone make me feel better please....

I think the rosie will be OK, from the Tarantula Keepers Guide by Stan Shultz - "Roses come from the borders of the Atacama Desert in Northern Chile at least as far south as Santiago. The Atacama can be one of the harshest environments on the planet! There are parts of it that have never...

There seems to be a problem.

sometimes they do this when they don't like the substrate or the humidity is too high/low.......maybe this is it....................or its just exploring, my Ts go through cycles where they are content just sitting around, and then they're all over the place for no apparent reason.

    My new tiny spiderling

"and sometimes tips over onto his back" This is what Ts do when they molt. If u "help it out" by tipping it back over that can be really dangerous because its a very bad thing for a T to abort a molt once its started. Remember the spider knows what its doing, all you need to do is create an...

Don't buy from places that can't get a name right. If they can't even do that right then imagine what kind of shape its gonna be in when it arrives at your house........

    please heat my a. avic

Just realized you said you were dealing with an avic. An avic would normally be at the top of the kritter keeper anyways as it is arboreal, if its crawling around on the bottom of the tank normally you got problems lol. Anyways I just use a oil filled radiator type heater. Cost about $40...

    please heat my a. avic

Heating rocks are not recommended for use as a heating device inside a Ts enclosure. Among other things it will dry the T out. Get a small heating pad and place it on one SIDE of the the tank (on the side of the tank not the bottom). If the T needs more heat it will go to that side, if it...

    Chil rose hair

nutz4rosie - In nature rosies often dig burrows, in captivity it is more uncommon. Also keep in mind that your Ts may dig themselves deeper into the ground if it is too hot (this is why an undercage heater is a no no for Ts), perhaps this is what it is doing? If not its probably just doing so...

    Chil rose hair

This sounds like pretty normal behavior to me. You'll learn quick that rose hairs do some weird stuff for no apparent reason. Mine decided yesterday to remove a bunch of rocks from the water dish and replace them with dirt. Just a few weeks ago it webbed up most of its new cage for no...

    Post molt feeding frenzy

My rose hair did the same thing its last molt. Just be ready for the time when you throw a cricket in and it gets ignored, its weird going from 3 crickets a day to 1 a week. My redknee molted last friday and I can't wait to start feeding it and fattening it up again. Nothing more satisfying...

    Petco-- when will they learn...

send them an e-mail from www.petco.com under the "contact us" link. I did that and I got a call on my cell phone from the manager the next day. They got rid of the bark chips substrate and now they are using soil. Things looked a little better the next time I went in.

    B.smithi problems

how long did you wait after its molt to feed it? Perhaps if you feed it too soon his fangs became disfigured and now it is having trouble eating.

    OMG!! Petco Pulled Through!!!

A little while back someone posted concerning the living conditions of the Ts at Petcos accross the country. Well I decided to e-mail them and tell them what they are doing wrong with their setups and how to fix them. I explained the water with the sponge in it, the substrate, lighting...

    pinhead crickets

hmm, that sounded wrong lol........I dump the cricket into the Ts enclosure...........not the other way around :p

    pinhead crickets

Pinheads are just as easy for the big ones for me. I just take a little pill vial and scoot them into there, then I open up the Ts container and dump him in. I will say they're a bit more jumpy than the big crickets tho.

Feeder Crickets: illegal in RI soon?

The lack of sense makes me really believe there is no way that law could ever pass. Regal Reptiles, one of the largest wholesalers of Ts, which resides in Providence RI would be kinda screwed if that law went in to effect. Next time I talk to Pat Kane their invert guy I'll ask him about that law.

    PetCo for T's?

Thats the problem with "chain" pet stores. Most pet stores which actually have people that are knowledgable are ones that are owned privately, because the people that own them have a passion for animals. I read somewhere on a arachno board of a petco employee telling their management that the...
