Your question is sort of like asking why a cat that usually prefers a chair is now sitting on the couch. More often than not, there's no accounting for their behavior.
I'm sorry, but it seems a bit disingenuous to take the opinions and experiences of other keepers, and present them as your own. This is, essentially, a compendium of the information found here and elsewhere.
When I was a child, interested in fish, I wanted a pirahna. My choice had more to do with the fish's reputation than the actual fish itself.

Flightless fruit flies are perfectly acceptable. I could be wrong, but I doubt cricket legs are all that common in the wild. A sling that size would, by necessity, take down and/or scavenge any and all available food items. Countless slings have been reared on fff, none the worse for the wear.
One of the true beauties in the hobby. The more colorful genus and species get all the attention, but of all the tarantulas currently available, I find them to be the most beautiful. It’s unfortunate they tend to be extremely shy and rarely visible.
I think I could recreate my H. macs natural environment down to a single blade of grass, and she'd still construct a dirt curtain in the corner of her enclosure. They're gorgeous, but be prepared to go months (and months and months) without a sighting.
Same here. When viewed under a microscope, they appear to be a species of grain mite. I've never observed them on and/or harming my tarantulas, so, I just let them be. Unless they appear to be the harmful sort, cleaning house seems like a waste of time. In all likelihood, they’ll be back shortly...
