Though not a T, Acanthoganatus are perfectionists in their threats. All of mine have, multiple times. But haha, they can't climb smooth surfaces. ;) The only T that ever gave me was a threat was a juvie Aphonopelma 'Carlsbad Green'. She was into biotch-slapping, swaying and raising the roof...
Very likely true, tarantulagirl10! Was so comical to see. So far, it has behaved quite differently from all the others. It looks like the other slings, but I wondered if it might have been a mix-up with some other spider when the dealer was collecting the babies for a show. Will enjoy this one...
With the 2 "red" I already had, I picked up 4 of the "yellow" so I would have plenty of these gentle little spiders.
HOWEVER...:sarcasm:...one of them thinks it's an OW. One day, just by passing a light across the top of it's little deli home, it gave me a threat posture. I wasn't even sure...
Just my opinion, but I agree that OP is stressing the spider. Using a paintbrush to see how a spider reacts is one thing. Continually doing so as I saw in the video is infuriating. If something doesn't want to be bothered, LEAVE IT ALONE. Not quite sure your responsibility level is ready for...
Thanks guys.
Here are pics of an Acanthogonatus pissii that died during transit. I decided turn the lemons into lemonade and got a very well-behaved subject for photo-documentation.
Anyone care to venture a guess on gender of this one?
I just love these reddish-brown spiders with gold flecks. Large spiders with healthy appetities and lots of webbing. I am taking pictures of mine and just took some very clear pictures of a pissii that didn't survive shipping last week, but made for a great photo subject.
I would like to...
Wow! Very cool little spider...they look like they are on short stilts! Will have to see if anyone has shot videos of these. Good luck with your question...you may be the one to answer it, yourself after experience.
A couple of things to consider:
1) Just because a specie is more common or low cost to sell doesn't mean you should skip it. Getting experience will only serve you to choose more and more challenging species to breed later. I found deals too hard to pass up when offered an affordable price for...
Really sucks, Grayzone. :( I know what it feels like.
My 2nd G. pulchra molted today. Love 'em when they're black. :D And my P. antinous is ready to molt within the next week most likely. Abdomen is BLACK where it was just flesh tone from kicked hairs since I've had her.
I've had this happen with a smithi, too. I increased humidity and 24 hours later gently grabbed the exuvia with tweezers while the sling walked out of it. No problem.
