I have been keeping T's since 2009 after finding a wild one on Camp Pendleton. Previous to that I hated spiders but that one male has turned into a dozen or so different pairs now. I have successfully paired several species, have had several sac's hatch out, I have watched more spiders molt than...
It is indeed a very stressful ordeal, much less for me than for the spider but... Very happy to report that the molt went fine she has flipped back upright and the old "house" measures out at a whopping 7.5". Now I Need a randy male to start it all over again. Well maybe not. :)
I don't worry so much about death as i do about injury. She had a bad molt when she was about 2" where she lost both fangs (don't ask me how) I had to squeeze the guts out of crickets for three months so she could eat. she finally molted and has been a beast ever since. I have lost an adult OBT...
Found my L. difficilis on her back this morning. Her last mo,t was 11 months ago. I just can not gel being somewhat worried when I find one so large on their backs. She is a bit larger than 7" poss 8' when fully stretched out. Just so much that can go wrong.
Hybrid? Not likely. :) I have a couple of L parahybana that are sac mates and one of them has a similar pattern on his abdomen. He has always had it though. Kind of odd. Yours looks pretty cool though.
Have a pair of Brazilian Blacks (G. pulcher) @ 4-1/2" ea. they each typically molt at close to the same time last month they molted within two weeks of each other. Their previous molts were each about seven and a half months earlier. I went out to feed on friday as usual and my male was chill'n...
Paired my A geniculata again today. Did so about six weeks ago. I have watched a few T's pair up but I must say that the male of this particular species is a most brutal lover. Each time he has paired up he has ended the pairing by flipping the female (considerably larger than he is) completely...
So after getting a MM geniculata almost four months ago to pair with my female, I finally had a successful pairing this evening. She molted two months ago so I do not need worry about her molting out, just hope that he delivered the goods and she drops a viable sac. I have had them together...
Very cool congrats on the sac. I just had a P irminia hook out less than two weeks ago. Let me know if you are interested or know someone else who might be interested in him. I had another one hook out about three months ago and he died last week without ever being paired, they don't seem to...
While I understand the thought, husbandry is not the likely issue. I currently have over twenty T's, most of them are adults and have been raised from slings. I do think that my garage does get a bit too cold for their liking but other than that, they all get a variety of well fed roaches, crix...
Can't find the words to express how bummed out I am right now. I recently lost a 3-4" GBB in mid-molt. She popped her carapace, got her legs out to the second joints and simply stopped moving and died. She was not disturbed, she just died. I came home today and found my MF A metallica reads so...
That male is TINY. did she feast on him after pairing? I currently have a big female (@ 6-1/2" DLS) that ihave been trying to pair up with a good sized male (@7-1/2" DLS) He is more than willing but all she seems to do is run away, curl up, or flick hair like crazy. Just doesn't seem interested.
Just recently lost my 3-1/2" female GBB in mid molt. One of my favorite spiders, such a bummer. Looking to replace her with some slings so get yours to breeding ASAP :)
I had a P irmina hook out early this week and noted that his legs look a bit odd to me. Nothing missing but the legs seem just a bit off, like they are very thin at the ends, the "angle of the dangle" just seems a bit off. Prior to this he has always appeared perfectly formed and healthy. My...
Pretty popular post. They indeed grow fast 6-7 inches in the first yr. not uncommon. I have fifteen sack mates that my male RIP fathered. About half of them are around 1/2" and the other half are around 1-1/2 to 1-3/4". All housed similarly all fed regularly just some do grow fasterthanothers...
Is that a picture of your B. smithi. Or should I ask rather what is the picture of? It does not appear to be any of the spiders you described in your OP. Maybe it's just me ;)
