My roommate: So you bought some tarantulas?
Me: Yep! They're just babies right now. -shows pill bottle with sling in it- Isn't it cute?
My roommate: You're creepy for having that.
The spider isn't creepy. I'm the creepy one. {D
At PetCo buying crickets:
Me: I need about 10 of the...
I did the same thing and got an A. urticans but the enclosure was more suited to a larger sling so it's probably going to need a smaller enclosure until it molts. But it is a really good deal, and if I didn't already have a versi I would get another one. You can't beat $29 for shipping AND a...
I love my versi so much. It is absolutely adorable and the coloring is so beautiful. But my urticans is definitely more interesting to watch.
You'll probably get addicted to your avics, so I would just buy one of as many species as you can get hold of :P
I would call up the airline and ask. Odds are that if they accept dogs/cats they SHOULD accept a T as long as it's in a small container and you complain enough if they reject it. I know if you leave out of a major airport they often have post offices so you could ship it out in a worst case...
I would leave it alone for a bit to see if it resolves itself, but if you're still worried some flour or cornstarch will stop mild bleeding and I don't think it would seal its anus shut.
It's more than likely just poop.
Woke up to find my .5" A. Versicolor sling is almost done molting! But the funny little sling molted while in its web, so I don't know what to make of that..... But I assume it knows what to do better than I do!
She looks a lot better now! if you haven't already done so, I would suggest yout try to gradually raise the temperature of the water to around 75 degrees F by initially adding some warm water to the tank every few hours. That way she can get better adjusted to the tropical temperatures betta...
After reading some of the horror stories off of this thread, I am happy that I can say that my Petco/Petsmart didn't sell any tarantulas and that the lizards seemed to be in decent sized cages for a pet shop. That being said, I think there might be an issue with who the pet shops hire as...
The airholes are definitely there! And I just used the vial that the sling was mailed in from Ken the Bug Guy :} I think it might just be the lighting in the pic for the versi, because this morning there was so much humidity in the vial that it was fogged up completely and I haven't misted it yet.
I went back and added some more substrate. I didn't want to get the substrate too wet because we are having some 100% humidity days all this past week, and I don't want to risk wetting it too much. I do mist all of my Ts a few times a week.
Thanks for the advice!
Hi there! I've been lurking for quite some time, and I finally received my first slings today! I've had adults before of both species, but never have had slings of any species before.
I got a .5" A. versicolor and a 1.25" B. smithi. I was just wondering about whether or not I have set up...
