Currently i have cage clips on my screen lids out of fear of tarantulas escaping but its a pain to take them off and on every time I feed. Has anyone ever had a tarantula escape from pushing up the lid when its on? Do you guys use cage clips yes or no?
Few quick questions about Lasiodora parahybana because I am seeing a lot of mixed answers on old posts. I would like some fresh input, thanks!
1. Is a 10 gallon tank too small for like an 8 inch or so adult? I know they can get pretty big.
2. Is room temp ok for them like 70 F
3. Do...
Im not worried about the pinktoe he does not even move when im messing around in the tank. Yes I have the long tweasers but he doesnt have a web. I guess he was just not hungry ill try and get the cricket out and let him be for a few days so his tummy starts to rumble. =)
My pinktoe is in an arboreal setup and he basically sits in the very top left hand corner. He has not made any webbing yet. I fed him a few days after i got him by wiggling a cricket in front of him, but a few days later i tried the same thing and he went into a defensive position and did not...
That's not a pic of my t just kinda what he looks like, but based on all the pics I've been looking at iI'm just gonna settle with him being an A. avicularia for now. He is def not as colorful as the versicolour pics ive seen, but he has the redish/brown on his abdomen like the a. avicularia.
I have horrible lighting and an even worse camera, but i just noticed hes got some brownish color on his abdomen like the pic below so maybe hes an a. avicularia.

I can't tell which my tarantula is. Petco did not even have a label. It def has pink toes and seems to have a blueish hue which i think is metallica? What are the main difference between these two?
I like using these betta fish keepers for small spiders, I've even seen smaller ones. It's just like the bigger critter keepers they just brand it towards betta fish. Already has vents and even a little handle. Can't beat that for 4 bucks...
Is your substrate very dry? I hear they like very dry substrate. If it is moist at all it may be the reason it is staying on the walls. I just use those dry bags of eco earth coco fiber, open it up put it in the tank and let it dry out more for a few days then put the tarantula in with a little...
I thought this product was kind of interesting for burrowing tarantulas, but check out the pic with the scorpion lol, no way in hell that emp could get out of there!

I have this piece of wood I got at a pet store and it was in some not fully dry eco earth and now its getting a lot of mold on it. What is the best way to remove the mold? I know this can be very dangerous to tarantulas.
Yeah better safe than sorry i guess lol. I read on some forum about some tarantula getting out of a guy's enclosure and it's still running around his house he never found it lol. I'm sure hell be going to the bathroom one day and look down and see it staring up at him haha.
What would you say the general lifespan for males is?
I think for beginners it's good to have a hydrometer just to get an idea of levels. Only a few bucks.
Good point I will adjust the substrate level recommendation.
I've heard from tons of people adult tarantulas can escape screen lids if...
Ok I made some updates to the care sheet based on everyone's input. Hopefully it's more accurate now!
One thing I was reading about was how this type of tarantula usually does not burrow in captivity, but I do have a hide for mine, which he occasionally goes into and recently I noticed he dug a...
Thanks all. I know the care sheet isnt the end all be all to caring its mainly just notes for me and to help others get started with caring for a tarantula instead of having to search all over for info. If you've seen a lot of this info before it must mean it's pretty accurate because I based my...
