You can also use lower RPMs on your drill and/or a better drill bit made for plastics (they exist). Less friction less melting and smaller pieces coming off when drilling. Hence a cleaner cut.
I never need to x-acto knife any holes this way and they look clean too :spiderweb:
It happens to the best of us as well as Mother Nature. A single bump on the enclosure will not stress them out like that.
African and Middle Eastern deserts have morning dew to some extent. When I see my desert scorps in premolt I make sure they always have fresh daily water and rather than...
Sounds like a typical water softener setup for one system. Hopefully your EcoWater system is a reverse osmosis system which are some of the best water filtration systems and usually remove the most TDS or total dissolved solids. Public drinking water is always treated in some form or another...
Sorry for your loss! I also went through Viper's write-up before getting my first versi. I think too many people mist too much or have the substrate soaked for too long without good ventilation for this arboreal species to thrive.
Dry substrate with occasional light misting without soaking pointing the mister down and making sure to not get mist on the T of course. Small water dish ground level and a few water droplets on the web. The T that got injured would do well to have pre-killed and tong fed food since it has...
Γεια σου Χριστίνα!
I have the same opinion as Arachnophobphil and Viper. Leaning towards mites since your substrate and enclosure overall does not look damp (just in case, make sure to have good ventilation with c. versicolors). Although also possible springtails???Your photo shows the white...
Heh... it's fun reading how everyone chose their forum handle :D
I've always enjoyed learning about arachnids, insects, and reptiles. But scorpions are my favorite and have been in the hobby for a long time so I decided to knight myself haha. Aculeus is the tip of the telson (the actual...
A bit late here but I was rummaging around the forum and since I somewhat recently acquired a female versicolor I was wondering if you picked one up yet? I've had mine for about 4 months now and they are great! They don't need high constant humidity, love good ventilation, and are fairly calm...
Sorry for your loss!
Did your bicolor have enough drinking water available or did it perhaps experience a stressful situation such as rehousing, mating attempt, moving the entire enclosure to another location? I use water bottle caps as water dishes for all my desert scorps. The bottle cap is so...
My Emps and H. Spinifers would burrow comparatively deep as early as 3rd instar and at 2nd instar they would make shallow holes/hides in the shallow small containers I had them in. Not sure about O. Capensis though.
What Joey Spijkers said though. They are still babies keep them in something...
Perlite is a byproduct formed by obsidian and it continues to have glass-like properties. Its molecular structure is that of volcanic glass rather than a rock.

A looooooong time ago (about 27 years)... my first scorp like many of us was an...
Nice find! I see, some aminos are found in lower quantities than others and like you mentioned trypto is really low. Perhaps this is due to their lower fat content or less complex structure. I wonder what the numbers are for mice. This is why I assumed since a mouse is a more complex animal...
Enjoy and welcome to the hobby! Emps are awesome burrowers and I am sure you will have tons of fun watching them. Another plus about keeping larger scorpions is you can feed them larger insects! You can go out into the wild and collect some juicy stuff for your new Emp!
Looks like an emp or h. spinifer mom with babies (a bit blurry) which calls for humid conditions. When they leave mom's back and begin to rove around you need to separate them ASAP to prevent cannibalism. You can use little plastic cups and put tiny pin holes on the lids... like the little...
Thanks....
I posted the wrong link from multiple tabs I had open. That link is incorrect...it is not the correct UV lamp to use since it's a broader range to fluoresce various colors and toys.
And yes of course, leaving the UV light on for too long stresses scorpions. It's up to the individual...
Consider not only your inexperience but also those who live with you under the same roof. I know it is exciting to get a "hot" or aggressive scorpion, but take your time. Although some scorpions may not be heavyweights on the LD-50 scale, some still pack a punch and can be hostile much like G...
What the others said and especially be careful of top/potting soils that have perlite in them (the little white stuff is actually glass and can kill you scorp if they consume it). Coco is great stuff. Gets wet but also dries nicely which helps prevent mold outbreaks.
You can also make your own top with some popper metal mesh and bend the edges to create a lid as well as add rigidity. With Emps and H. Spinifer make sure to have occasional ventilation days to prevent mold outbreaks.
Just an example of some stainless steel mesh...
Is it fully grown? 30x30x30 cm is fine but perhaps on the small side in my opinion for an adult H. Spinifer since they can grow to 12cm. Although 45cm seems on the excessive side I think it's okay and as you mentioned that 45cm cube would provide room for more substrate to borrow and overall...
