He'll probably be fine. Mine was about that size when I got him and he's always made crazy tunnels... One of my G. pulchripes has had a tunnel collapse before and he dug himself out easily.. (I might have freaked out a tiny bit at first, they were my first slings! Lol)

I'd rather use one of those for a sling than a betta... (Its actually not a good idea for bettas because most people won't change the water often enough to keep the water quality up..). Personally, for my slings I use little plastic craft boxes from hobby lobby or michaels for less than a buck...
