My sling went 6 weeks without feeding when I first bought it, it still doesnt eat very often, maybe once a week, and its fat and healthy from the looks of it.
As far as I know its Phlogius, but there might not be any picture of this species on here, as I believe most people here are not from Australia, and I think getting them overseas is kind of difficult, so maybe no picture thread for them exists here?
Here...
Personally, I wouldnt want a freebie, I like to make sure I have a nice enclosure made up and ready to go for whatever I ordered, and if 2 T's turned up when I only ordered 1 I wouldnt be happy with just scrabbling to create an enclosure on the spot.
For jumpies I like to get a tiny glass aquarium, bit of peat coir soil, and then have lots of dead twigs, with heaps of branches, because its fun to watch them jump from branch to branch hunting dinner, and I used to give mine pinhead crickets, maybe one or two a week if it took them, if not, I...
Thanks Campj!
I only want the one tank so it has a seamless front, but it will be in essence 2 tanks, the glass will be siliconed bottom to top, no way for them to just climb over :)
Guess I had better go hiking and see what I can find, hehe
How do you secure your lids if I can ask?
I...
Did people read my thread properly, they will be two separate areas, just one tank divided by glass, no different than your 4 compartment setup.
not happy about the one lid, I am trying to workout a way of doing this so they are separate, I would like to use a sliding lid, just working on...
I'm new to T keeping (addicted now), but I'm planning to build a custom display tank.
I would like to make it a visually appealing tank (to humans) while keeping it as close to the T's natural habitat as possible.
(I would like to change a lot of friends minds who think T keeping is stupid by...
Go to Bunnings and get some Peat Coir, its about $1.60 a block. (compressed blocks, a few blocks go a LOOONG way)
Just make sure you get the one without the added fertilizers in it!
Few things Ive noticed about the Aussie G's (based on my observations of my housemates T)
Doesn't seem to like the substrate to moist, refuses to burrow if to wet.
Will eat like a pig for a week or two, then stop.
As much substrate as you can give it, if you can give it 8+ inches of...
I would have a lot more substrate.
I have a Stents sling, he burrows like mad but Im yet to see any climbing behavior
Housemate has an Aussie Goliath, thats a mad burrower too, only time I know of it climbing is when it decided to climb out and wander around the house, until I noticed it near...
WOW, Some awesome posts guy, keep them coming, love seeing all these species I cant get over here in Australia.
Has anyone every kept an Mantis Shrimp? They are a fun little critter to keep.
I try to remove them when i can, but since they are usually stuffed half way down its burrow I cant always remove them.
I dont want to destroy the slings burrow, trying to avoid stressing it out, but also worried about keep the tank clean and the sling healthy.
I know I made a few jokes here, but yes, it was a very interesting topic, but Im just wondering how common DKS is? Is it one of the main causes of T deaths?
I feed it tonight, put in cricket, the sling sensed it by the web its laid down, came rushing out, looked around, grabbed the cricket, sank the fangs in, dragged it half way down it burrow, and then left the carcass there and went down to the very end of it burrow, and hasnt come up to grab it...
Hey, I have a Phlogius sp. Stents sling, it likes to kill crickets, drag them down its burrow and just abandons them, doesnt seem to eat them...
Is this common with T's or maybe just something my species does?
Im feeding it 1 pinhead cricket per week
