"A lot of people look at you and think it's kinda strange what your doing, but those are the people who don't know much about it...." - Arnold Schwarzenegger
I find generally this is pre-moult behavior. I have though made a peep hole and sent a cricket in after a few weeks of no moulting action and the T's have eaten it. But did eventually moult a few weeks later... My signature says it all though :)
Never heard or read of a Tarantula consuming enough food to cause a rupture ( they are "smart" enough to know when to stop). Black widows on the other hand will eat till they pop!
Take some pics or give a very detailed description of the burrow. Chances are there may not be a safest way (for you anyways :) ) to remove the sac. Sometimes you just gotta get messy!
Pic would be helpful for sure. It could have been stuck in the moult and torn a section of the new exo (speculation till I see a pic) "soupy" fangs is normal as they emerge very soft/white and distorted looking. Was anyone in your home who may have had access to the T and by chance poked it...
Yeah I read awhile back of male to female "canabalism" post mating and heck it could have even been the one your talking about Jason but I know it is very rare. Be like someone building a home with their bare hands just to turn around and burn it when their done. Totally goes against the purpose...
Letting go of the sac isn't anything to worry about. Dumping it in a corner and not returning to get it is a problem. If she is still brooding it should be fine. As for creating an exit it could mean many things. Nothing I would say to worry about sac wise unless like I said she dumps it. 46...
I un-clog salt shakers by sticking a tooth pick in the hole not trying to shake it like a gorilla. But I guess a spider probably wouldn't like one of its holes being poked either... Hehehe
Tearing the cover off the hide to feed isn't the best idea but sending a cricket down the "hatch" so to speak is fine. In the wild they don't always sit out side to ambush prey they also rely on them to make the mistake of " hey this hole looks like a good place to hide...." :). As for stress we...
If the substrate is too wet she will try and stay off it. My G.rosea always takes a tour and tries to escape every few months. Refusing prey is nothing to worry about especially with a rosea. Just provide a water dish (if she is over the 2" mark DLS) make sure the substrate is dry (like bone...
I have never had a T try and devour an egg sac when trying to remove it for artificial incubation. Their first instinct is to protect the sac with slapping, biting or running with it. The last one could end up with a puncture of a few eggs but they usually use their palps and first pair of legs...
What your asking then is if there is a way to unobtrusively enter their hide and check for a sac... Not unless you want to wait for the university of Texas to complete their "x-ray" app :). If you don't have a peep hole in the webbing or a section of excavated substrate that has created a...
Can you give us a description of what your housing them in currently? Depending on what you have them in you might have to move them into a catch cup or something similar...
Ahh I see. I personally do not know of any Tarantula the possess any type of necrotic venom. So your safe there unless you start messing with spiders like the Loxosceles reclusa (Brown Recluse). With that being said and to reiterate what was mentioned earlier by 1hughjazzspider and myself, all...
As for the smell I would say it's the enclosure, coming from the substrate or rotting prey items/mold/fungus etc... T's don't stink until they have died and begun the decompose.
I am not sure exactly but can speculate on the price being reflected on it's availability among other factors. Also as soon as a spider has some blue on it the price seems to go up as well... weird coincidence I'd say... ;)
Thanks for the bite report link Levi, I stopped reading it when I got to the part about his "gonads". Once the pain moves from the bite area on your neck to your crotch is there anything else that matters? Or give reason to read on? IME when the pain gets to your "gonads" I pretty much call it a...
