    Nephila Egg Sacs

Hey everyone, I have two N. clavipes egg sacs (laid within the last month in our lab), and I don't really have the time right now to take care of them when they hatch. So~ I was wondering if anyone is interested in the egg sacs. I can't promise anything like they're still good or won't...

Just an update for those who are interested, She's up and running again, as if nothing has happened... I really don't get what happened :(.

Jumping Spider laying on her back

Hi all, I woke up this morning and my Jumper (P.audax) was laying on her back... She was doing fine the day before, she was walking around just like usual. I wanted to check if she was still alive (her legs were in the death curl), so I poked her a little bit, and she started squirming...

    Humidity

Hi, I've been wondering, do tropical species really NEED the ridiculously high humidity as the pet books say so? In lab we keep a bunch of different spiders, but only our Nephila and Argiope that we got from Florida are on strict humidifier control; set to 75% HR. Black widows and...

    Nephila clavipes Caging

About house flies. I tried to catch some and 'culture' them so I can get a food supply going, but it seems like they die really really fast :/. There is D.hydei, which is larger than D.melanogaster, but they're usually sold flightless, which is kind of annoying :P. Still, they're no where...

fungal infestation of wooden enclosure components (latrodectus)

If brown widows are the same as black widows, they don't actually even need the water source. They can get enough water from the food they eat. Anything that can mold is a lot of problem... you might want to consider plastic or metal so things can't grow on them.

    Keeping orb weavers...?

I think it also depends on what species you have, especially where they are from. For example, if you have a tropical species, you may need to keep the temperature high and the humidity up. I keep Nephila in a lab situation (you can see my other thread on what problems I ran into...), but...

    Nephila clavipes Caging

So it seems like the condensation problem was easily solved; and I was just dumb. The sensor was getting too much sunlight which was drying out the sensor, and that was causing the humidifier to go off constantly. I moved the cages a bit so there is a corner for permanent shade; and I stuck...

    Nephila clavipes Caging

Hello, Thanks for the responses! I'm considering switching out one of the smaller sealed panels out with the fine meshes. The problem with feeding them larger organisms is that some of them like to take their webs down, or don't put one up at all. This makes throwing food into their...

    Nephila clavipes Caging

Hello everyone! I'm new on these forums, so I guess I'll start with a short intro. I'm currently a graduate student in a lab that works with spiders, of course I love these crawlers, that's why I'm here :P. Anyway, we have a bunch of black widows in cages sitting around, and they've been...
