Cross ventilation is what you really want and works best with taller enclosures.
With the example above, I would have cut one or two rows of holes on one face of the enclosure, about 3/4 inch above substrate level. I would drill an equal number of holes in the lid, hopefully so they would be...
Thanks for the kind words. Im concerned its something more, though. At work, I have a small backroom I can keep some animals in. I had a rescue beardie, who resembled a pencil more than a pancake, and a healthy mature Brazilian Rainbow Boa in the same room. Both died days apart from each other...
No. My pet store isnt any better. Animals are viewed as products that need to be turned over quickly for maximum profits. Proper care equates to lost profits in man hours.
Im currently trying to cure mouth rot in a young ball python. The animal is around 3-4 months of age. He has two scabs, both on the lower mandible in front of his two front teeth. His right lower jaw....area..... looks like cauliflower. For the past three weeks I have been keeping him by...
#1. Hydrate
#2. Hydrate
#3. Hydrate
#4. Calories and nutrients.
And you have to manage the animals stress level the whole time.
Such an emaciated gecko is also dehydrated, and the digestive system needs water to properly function. The moisture found in feeder insects does not attribute to...
Im a firm believer in the whole prey diet, bacteria and enzymes all. Manufactured foods have their pros and cons like everything else.
Nightcrawlers are amongst the best food sources for any reptile/amphibian. Their natural mucus will act as a good lubricant in the digestive tract and being...
My favorite part is the title, "Eaten alive". Because thats how snakes roll:sarcasm:
I got to reading some comments, and those people, who are not hobbyists in any sence of the word, seem to agree that this is just some stupid-hype TV show. Thats somewhat reassuring.
I have/had a Tanzanian Blue Ring Centipede, approx 7". It was in an Exo-Terra cube tank.
Have no idea how he got out, the doors were latched shut. I looked over the top, just in case, didnt get out that way...
What is the best way to go about finding him and any ideas where to start...
Tong feed with your unused hand in the enclosure. Slowly over time move the tongs above your hand so the gecko has to climb on the hand to get the food.
I advocate to never hold the animal, but instead, think of yourself as a perch for the animal to grasp onto. Ive had great success using this...
Quite simply, because we dont understand it.
On a positive note, I highly suggest you watch, "How Wolves Change Rivers" on Youtube. Its only 5 minutes long, and shows how the wolf population is acutally changing river patterns for the better.
Technology doesnt advance evenly across the plane.
You see, in Canada where roaches are illegal, we have devised cricket husbandry techniques to rid us of unwanted smells and sounds. But for some reason we still cant get you Americans to take us seriously... :sarcasm:
IIRC, crickets cannibalize to make up for the lack of protein/water in their diet.
Oats sound interesting. Personally I provide them carrot and potato for nutrients and moisture, and fish flakes to round everything off. Everybody gets gutloaded before being fed off. Never had any major die offs...
Its not all that bad. Just convert a bedroom into a communal for a couple of Aussie Frilled Dragons, or another Aussie herp that is in high demand outside the country.
