Smuggler Caught Shipping tarantulas in LA

With the amount of people around the world that have dealt with Sven, frankly I find it amazing that people are so quick to jump on the typical media bandwagon. The law in the USA is ridiculous in the extreme, and so full of red tape that it becomes prohibitive in the extreme. I know this from...

Smuggler Caught Shipping tarantulas in LA

Sven is one of the most respected dealers in Europe, and you can be sure that all his animals are of the top order, and a gentleman to boot.. however, it does seem that he chanced his arm here, and tried to circumvent the law.

    dubia cannibalizing each other

I use dry dog food, bran flakes and a handful of crunchy nut cornflakes.. blend them all down to powder, and put it on a flat lid. I have never had mould, ever. Usually you make more powder than needed, so I rotate it every week, and only put in a bit of fruit/veg, taking it out every few days.

    T.Blondi vs sp. Burgundy

No doubt about it.. T. sp burgundy... and a pretty one at that. Like Fran, I am waiting on the revision paper to confirm what has been known/suspected for a fair while now.

    Smithi!

I am sure they will tolerate light all right.. but in my experience, it makes for a fidgety T. If the light has to stay, then lots of hides etc are going to be needed.. and it should be said that it really is only if you keep plants in your enclosure that light may be needed. None of my Ts...

    Smithi!

Ok.. for us in Europe, we tend to keep our smithi's (successfully) this way. First of all, I have been in Sweden loads of times, and your houses aren't cold.. remove the light. It isn't needed, and they hate it. Second, the substrate needs to be dry.. I was going to suggest going to a forest...

    Sperm production and introduction

Also in Ireland, we still have male and female segregation in schools etc, and so, in that context 'mixing' is in the 'male/female' area.

BLACK Florida Anole! Please help with ID?

When I lived in North Florida (Clay County) I used to keep these wee guys.. they were everywhere along with the 'normal' ones. The males have a big red dewlap that they display prominently when signalling to other males. They are ultra territorial!

are tarantulas a sustainable food source?

Not sure this sling is what I bought.

I was going to say it looks like a Cambridgi.. I have 20 or so of them here, and that is what they look like.

    Fleas and Tarantulas

I would have thought that fleas, being a parasite that lives on Mammals, wouldn't be able to survive on T's.. different blood and all that. The bug bomb question... It isn't something I could contemplate personally, in case it has lingering effects.. and also with the debate regarding types...

phonutria sac when to pull and how to know if its furtile?

The greater issue then is how we, not just in the USA, but all over the world, self regulate in such a way that it is a respected sign that people look for when coming into the hobby. At the end of the day, and all you have to do is look into the reptile, or dog spheres for proof, there will...

How did you learn all your info on Tarantula's?

When I got my first spid.. about 1988/89, it was a new thing here, and so not much to call upon. Then it was just going to the library and torturing them for any books on spiders in general. The Herpoculture was taking off then as well, and so a lot of the stuff from that could be borrowed...

Spider article I contributed to with Rod in The Seattle Times!

The girl in the picture beside that article is absolutely stunning! She obviously wasn't afraid of spiders! I only scanned the article, as I have to hurry out.. but any good publicity out there is brilliant!

    Interesting link....

Not really... you could bs it, and people wouldn't know the difference. We had to learn Latin for the first 3 years a secondary school.. do they not do that in England now?

Dyskinetic syndrome is killing my collection.

Perhaps we can all do an experiment? The systems in most spiders are pretty much the same, and whilst we do not want to risk our own, I have no qualms about getting 10 or so from the garden, and setting up a tank for them. They would have to be kept as much as possible like your garden...
