Well, I did some research and learned that it is illegal to keep non-native mantis species of mantids in the US. I see there are dead-leafs being sold at Swift Inverts and I have some questions-
1. ARE they illegal in the US?
2. Would I get busted if I bought one?
What are the reasons my A. metallica won't eat? She won't accept food, and it's been maybe 2-4 months now. She's very slow, too. I don't know what's wrong- she has water and a big tank with humidity.
P.S. She is a MF 5.5"
Well, I have a 5.5 gallon tank that I got for my immature (not matured) gecko who just wouldn't eat. Now he's gone (returned him) and I want to know what I can put in the aquarium.
P.S.
Please do not ask anything about the gecko. This is not a "What's Wrong With My Gecko?" thread, what's...
I say go for it! People will try to avoid Avics because of SADS, but they're actually reakky easy to care for. I'd say that most species of the Grammostola genus are probably easier, though. Slings are like the mini version of Ts :) .
Bald spot is from flicking hairs. She may have just been cleaning herself as what you describe the "death curl". Tarantulas barely move anyways. If you tried to make her move and she barely did, she's probably in premolt.
Sorry, I'm not KenTheBugGuy. I said, it was just for humor. Although, he is on this site. Look for the username called- KenTheBugGuy. He has a picture of an A. Minatrix as his avatar.
Again, nothing is positive. I was just trying to give some helpful information. USUALLY, petstores have A. Avics when they're labeled "Pinktoe" or sold as "Avicularia sp."
For some reason, my Leo won't eat. I've had him for 2-4 weeks and the most he has ever been interested in a meal was when he looked at it, came closer, and walked away. Maybe it's because he shed yesterday? I don't know, I've tried feeding every day to every other day. He has proper conditions...
I don't have one of the Theraphosas, so don't take my word for it when I say this. It looks a bit weird, but I still say from urticating hairs. The middle part is definitely from urticating hairs.
Just for the sake of a relatable story, let's imagine my name was Kenneth Bugguy (not Macneil, Bugguy). I owned a small tarantula business in the U.S. and profits were extremely high. I had all the Pokies and Avics available, chromatopelma, Nhandu, many Theraphosas, and feeder roaches. After a...
Well, there's always that chance, but with the picture provided it would be extremely hard to ID the species. My educated guess would be that it's an A. Avic, unless the pet store knows anything about Ts. Also, it merely said pinktoe. Most LPS's assume that pinktoe means A. Avicularia- two of...
It's from flicking hairs. Theraphosa as a genus is known for its notorious flicking. Also, it is very hard to ID from that far away, but you may have the Theraphosa sp. Burgundy.
LOL! Copying is a form of flattery ;P . So do you think she may be a Blondi?
P.S.
I think the Pulchra you sent me is going to molt into a jet-black color pretty soon. He/she's been digging everywhere and has a REALLY dark area on his/her opisthosoma
