uh oh!... I found myself doing this today

Actually, the right pronunciation of "smithi" would be smith-e (like the "e" on e-bay, or if you want, like the "ee" of cheese) and not smith-eye (like the eyes we have on our face, or like "I" like pizza). http://atshq.org/articles/beechwp1.html

How does the moulting process work

Once tarantulas are big enough, they don't grow that much within each moult. I mean, big adult females won't dramatically increase diagonal legspan after a moult process. They grow, form a new, temporarily soft exoskeleton and dissolve most layers of the old exoskeleton first (that's one of the...

    Why?

Well, I think pain and suffering are the central issues here. Mammals and Arthropods do not feel the same, at least that is what experiments suggest. There have been threads about that. :) Of course, maybe YouTube users don't care about that and just see the "poor mouse" being killed and the...

    Major Changes to Avicularia

In that -still to be published- work, Avicularia metallica is considered to be a nomen dubium. So, it won't exist as a valid species name unless someone define and describe what an A. metallica is. A species name is considered to be a nomen dubium when there is not enough information (original...

What tarantulas are the most rare and expensive?

Most rare tarantulas? Maybe those species are not even in the hobby yet (like Harpactira pulchripes), IMO (depending on what you are referring to as "rare"). So, those rare tarantulas could be species like Megaphobema teceae, Iridopelma seladonium, Bacillochilus xenostridulans, Cyrtopholis...

How often do i feed my B Smithi a pinkie

How do you know she is looking for food? IMO, and in relation to this topic, the average hobbyst overfeed his/her tarantulas more often than he/she thinks. Brachypelma spp. in some areas in México won't eat probably for months, during dry season.

    Can this Tarantula Recover?

I can't see any of them. Maybe those are just carapace's grooves? I'm just saying, it could be a different spider.

I also think it seems to be in good shape, just a little wet. {D Legs, carapace and chelicerae setae look just fine.

    Are these mites? (photo attached)

IME, mites can be a problem if they get out of control. At least, in the (maybe short) time when I worked with some Dendroctonus spp. (small Pine beetles), those who had a lot of red mites on them seemed to be more "weak" than the others.
