G. rosea will often go long periods without eating (sometimes months). I would put food in once a week and if she does not eat it in a few hours i would remove it and try again next week.
The only tarantula that i know of that has had a study done on venom effects on K9s is Phlogius crassipes and they say bites on a dog of this spider was 100% fatal. Here is a link http://ecopathsim.blogspot.com/2009/05/australian-tarantula-invasion.html
I know it is not much help just saying...
I have tried to breed these guys and my female was very aggressive with the male and it took a long time for her to drop a sac and she ate the sac not long after laying it. G. rosea is the only Grammostola i have tried to breed so not sure if it is the genus or not.
For me the L. Difficilis seems much more defensive, but that could just be my girl. All of the L. Parahybana i have had i would say have been just skittish.
I don't find them anymore defensive then H. vonwirthi or H. lividum. The thing about an OBT is they seem to be out and about more then Haplopelma so you you get the chance to see it more often when feeding and watering.
All the B. vagans i have kept have been kinda aggressive, biting at the water when i fill its dish, jumping on anything that moves in their cage. I would say yours is pretty normal.
I would go with the G. pulchripes, i think they are a bit calmer and get larger. Both my E. Campestratus adults are extremely skittish. But really you can't go wrong with either.
All three are extremely defensive with potent venom, I like all of them and i don't think one is easier then the others. If you are planning on getting them as slings the OBTs and H. gigas grow fast, the King Baboon is maybe the slowest growing of all tarantulas but they live forever.
Avicularia are not a communal species, some older books list them as such. I had 3 Avicularia avicularia living together when i first got into the hobby over 20 years ago and had to separate them due to fighting.
I have bred my male and female pair 4 times the last time was 10-8-10, I started breeding them less then a month into her molt cycle ... she has been putting on a lot of weight and looks gravid but no egg sack ... anyone breed Brachypelma and know if i need to change anything to get her lay a...
