    New Longhorn Beetles; Beetles care

Galapoheros, what you saw was most likely a species of Plinthocoelium, and based on the specific local you saw it at, quite possibly P.suaveolens plicatum. Hope this helped!

    Chlorocala africana oertzeni

Glad you guys like them! I figured even if someone isn't necessarily "into" beetles, they'd still appreciate their chromatic brilliance! Even still, it's virtually impossible to capture their true color in a picture.

    Chlorocala africana oertzeni

They've finally started to emerge! 5 have successfully eclosed thus far (still have 16 pupae left). They have been raised on a 100% maple based substrate (70% leaves, 30% wood) and are all in excellent health (figured you'd want to know Orin!). They spend all their time either munching on beetle...

I see this old urban myth is being circulated again on Facebook etc.

I find this hilarious! I'm glad the ISU Department of Entomology decided to share a little bit of knowledge with anyone willing to do the slightest bit of fact checking! http://www.ipm.iastate.edu/ipm/iiin/agluteus.html

Giant African Land Snail (A. fulica)

Every once in a while on ebay there's a man selling freshly hatched GALS as "fishfood" to comply with ebay regulations. They're ridiculously cheap as well, somewhere around $3 US for a group of 5 of em'. He lives somewhere close to england and will ship them to the states. Now keep in mind I am...

    Widows in Tacoma?

No, you wont find any lats in this part of the state (the entire west side is void of them). However, in Yakima you may be able to find some. I found 6 adult females in Yakima over the summer, although it may be getting a bit late in the season for you to find any right now :(

    Jungle carpet python not eating

I got a little baby JCP on the 18th of last month and she still hasn't eaten. She's about 17"-18" and I was told it was taking frozen thawed peach fuzzies. I've tried feeding her at night, in the morning, and just about every other time of the day and she still will not eat. Does anybody have...
