I second that. More generally, it is an amphipod. Gammarusis likely the Genus, but there are probably others it could be. Others species live in saltwater, just ask anyone who has live rock in their tank, they will have these living in the filter pads.
I think it's a good idea. This is the same concept some of use to incubate multiple clutches of reptile eggs. I have done the same type of thing with hatchling day geckoes. Also works with tropical pitcher plants, but that's a little different.
Point being, it's easier to maintain humidity in a...
Jeez, Steve, maybe you should edit your original pictures with a big lettered caption that says : THE RAT WAS ALREADY DEAD! FOUND DEAD!
Just for the ones who won't bother to read the whole thread.
Java moss, Neocardinashrimp, air driven sponge filter. You can have a super easy colony of odd little shrimp that will perpetuate themselves with just a little effort.
fairy shrimp size?
I have caught fairy shrimp like those in your pics, red marks on the tail and all. These were big, I was really surprised at how big, maybe an inch total, but it's been a few years, so maybe not quite that big. How large do they usually get? Also I had found some in another...
Provoked, set up, yes I think so too. Look at the backgrounds on these clips when you see them. Often they look a little too clean, like a stage or terrarium rather than actually in situ.
I saw probably the same thing on Discovery Channel or Animal Planet, a few times, last time maybe 2 weeks ago. I remember a baby fer-de-lance getting done in by a big brown T. The whole thing looked like a studio set up, mulch and surroundings just looked like a terrarium. Hmm... the snake is...
In Reptiles magazine I saw Botar's ad, went there and found this thru the links. I figure I owe Botar some business (among others) just for the feeder culture info I got here!
I have wondered about getting these too. I think they need cool humid conditions and are predatory, using some kind of sticky glue to catch things, but don't quote me there, I don't know why I think I know that. Look for it as an onycophoran (spelling?) or as peripatus (spelling?).
Seems like...
I have seen some stuff on USDA banning imported mantids, among others. Are there any restrictions known on distributing offspring of any already in the country? Has anyone even managed to establish any of these in captivity? It would really suck not to be able to get any more flower mantids.
Looks like something in the Phrynomerus genus or close to it. Try looking with that name or maybe " red banded crevice creeper" , or even another stupid pet store name "cherry frog"
