I wish I saw this thread earlier.
I've kept Androctonus mauritanicus, bicolor and australis (Hector Tunisia) together in an enclosure because I wanted to compare tail sizes and see how they act towards each other. They were all mature adult specimens, male and female, and I fed them all before...
I've kept bicolors - they are nice, sure, but maximum size on them is quite small. The mauris and australis look like tanks in comparison to the smaller and sleeker bicolors (I prefer the stockier, robust look).
Plus mauris are definitely way more communal as adults, which is a great plus in my...
Hey guys I just saw this thread!! Thanks for the shoutout Andrew.
I'm glad that you like them. Hottentotta jayakari are feisty in my experience, but how they look makes up for the attitude.
It's a girl, no obvious notch in the chela. You might want to do a pectine count to double check, though. Eric Ythier's website The Scorpion Fauna has the numbers
I don't either. But that does not stop me from wondering if they could.
If they are indeed able to, we could be having a bunch of genetically impure Androctonus out there. Not what I'd want if I'm forking out $40 for a one-inch supposed pure A. crassicauda, or $30 for an A. baluchicus sling.
I'm wondering if they can interbreed to give a hybrid. I've seen a youtube video of a promenade between a Heterometrus laoticus and an Emp, but that doesn't mean fertilization, of course. But within the same genus itself.......
Hey John,
I remember reading somewhere that one of the methods to distinguish Androctonus species involves looking at the granulations at the lateral side of the metasomal segments. Have a look :

I feel that bicolor tails are generally not...
Yeah I read the old thread concerning the revisions and all the disagreements but the revised names was something that I felt the Original Poster should be aware of, in case he's googling caresheets and was wondering.
But yes, Heterometrus species are a lot of fun, I agree with you there :)...
I did not even look at the pictures, truth be told. I was referring specifically to the Original Poster's question of -
"....but I picked up a scorpion and it said Vaejovis Spinigerus - striped devil scorp. But the top said H. SP. What are the differences of these 2 species or are there...
I'm extremely surprised no one has mentioned this one, so I'll be the first:
Apistobuthus pterygocercus
The second holiest grail for me would be Orthochirus pallidus
These cool looking scorpions are so notorious for growing so slowly, I'm curious if they grow as slowly as an Emperor scorpion or, say, a Heterometrus species?
If these two species have about the same rate then I can handle it. Their cuteness make up for it!!
I think that is very kind and considerate of you. I am more selfish when it comes to my scorpions, I get whatever I want as long as I know that they are kept secure. I should be more considerate too I guess, but I do not have children or older people around in the house.
The funny part is...
This might be off-topic if we are just talking about physical characteristics, but let's not forget the unique traits in various scorpion venom that bear applications in medicine:
1) LQ venom contains chlorotoxin that targets cancer cells in the brain specifically, whereas
2) Maurotoxin is...
