I had a little T that lost four legs and both palps in a molt. I fed him for months on "cricket soup" by mashing up a cricket and some water in a bottle cap. He not only recovered, but molted, normally, and later matured. Just straightforward cricket goosh.
I currently have a complaint open with Petsmart about this very thing. I was brushed off by manager #1. Manager #2 said she would take care of it. Visit 4 and still no progress, BUT the fellow at checkout said they were aware and had been "absolutely forbidden" by their care specialist and...
Yes, they most certainly do. All of my henztis are acting a little off this year - the ones I've had in captivity for several years, and the new ones acquired due to flooding. I have a couple that haven't eaten for a while. If she's got a big bum and access to water, I wouldn't worry too much.
Huzzah! Yes, the daughter and I were calling it a moustache as well! Unusual to find a female on the road, but the stretch we were driving is still a swampland!
Way too hot now in Texas to risk it. (Average right now 92-97 day, 75 night.) A couple of weeks ago it might have been fine. I'd pack them down and put the enclosures in the back of the truck.
I have a MM B vagans that is still making sperm webs over 16 months post molt to MM, and a RCF or "true" rosea male that is nearing two full years post MM status, still eating and going strong. It can be done!
Bag method.... can't say enough about it. Someone did a long thread years ago here about it, and I use it all the time - pokies, phampos, OBTs, H mac... I have bags in all sizes and swear by the method.
A friend pointed out this very large 3" + DLS spider in Ellis County Texas this last weekend. She is on a tree near a creek bank. Sorry, these are the best photos we could get. Any positives on ID? Couldn't get close enough to zoom in and check eye arrangement.
The palps will look something like the little hoof of a donkey. I don't so much see them as "boxing gloves" on most of the arboreal and related, but instead like the sharp, upright hooves of a baby donkey.
Pick a species you like. For your first breedings, I'd personally select something of moderate size (not a dwarf species where the slings are microscopic) and that doesn't have 2500 slings per eggsac. Pick something you like, because unless you have a guaranteed outsource, you may be stuck...
It is not hard to remove the old carapace. Get a paintbrush, and gently wet the area where it joins to her abdomen. Get it very good and soggy. Keep it that way, and you may be able to gently detach it. If you cannot, then wet it, and use a pair of baby-nail scissors (they have blunt rounded...
Definitely a MM. I've had one that was mature at just over 2". Still managed to sire a sac. I have a number of his offspring still, and now his grand-slings as well. Males from his siring matured at 3-3.5" and still have a number that might be males.
I have a thousand (give or take 150) tarantulas at the moment. I've been seriously collecting and breeding for five years now. I have some rare creatures in my collection, and a lot of more common ones. I have not even begun to break even on the time/expense of raising them. I've raised some...
I'm still going with hentzi. I have a huge 6" anax female, this T looks nothing like her. I have several Anax that were just hand-delivered to me from Brownsville, where the anax are found. And for temperament, what was posted earlier is true. I have CB spiders with tempers, that are doll...
Out of town for how long? IF there is a water dish, the temps are constant, and the T has been fed right before you go, most would be fine for 7-14 days with no "care" needed. As for care, if they can squirt water in a dish, that is probably all the care one would need if the stay away were...
Anax are pretty much contained to the very southern portion of Texas. Anywhere in Central Texas ought to be a Hentzi. I have found immature males out wandering. It could be either gender from that photo.
