Arggg! I just got back home from school this weekend and the eggs are gone. There were some of those tiny flies down in the cave so I think I had the humidity too high. Curses!
Hello arachnoboards. I've had a s. mutilens on eggs for about 3 weeks now, and I was just wondering if its necessary to feed the pedelings before separating them in the second instar? Also should the mother be fed before the eggs hatch? Obviously I am thinking about prekilled food.
Thanks
David
The centipedes and I are on vacation in the north of NY and there's not a lot of good-sized arthropods around for them to eat. Does anyone think centipedes can eat a newt? There are plenty of them around.
Its sitting out in the open, which it does sometimes, but its front few dozen legs are curled under it and its head and antennae are at rest. Its back half legs will move and respond but not enough to move him. I would like to revive the centipede.
The centipedes don't look like they are doing very well. This morning the light came with the sun as usual but some centipedes were still staying out. They seem sluggish and less responsive. I have them in rubbermade with holes. I think either they need more air holes or more heat.
Happy...
And my 6 centipedes are coming with me. Im thinking Im going to keep them in those plastic kritter keeper bug totes
I use heating lamps with my centipedes to keep them warm so I am not really sure if they will be fine with ambient room temps. Ill be in Florida so I'm not too concerned except...
We can buy halloween donuts at the 7-11 this time of year
or we could
not anymore
Halloween colors is orange and black, but contrasting (like the night) instead of muddy
I think only your centipede fits the description
Im sure its not so hard to do. To test the ideal protein/ fat ratio, one could simply split a group of babies into 3, one fed the protein diet, another a fatty diet, and the last a good mix. The measured variables would be perceived health and activity and growth rate.
And centipedes are like...
Guess what we did in the bio lab today.
We put gerbils in different temperature environments and measured their respiration (which could be related to metabolism?)
It went up as they got colder, but I figure thats because they are warm-blooded and use that extra energy for shivering or...
Its a factory sealed cricket box product, costing about $2. It has some clever text as though it is sold for people to eat
stuff like
"Crunch outside, creamy center" and "Stay-fresh exoskeletons"
They used to come with nutrition info
So that means centipedes can eat much more than they need too
Im buying a box of 25 lg crickets at least once per week for 6 sub-adults
they are always eating, in fact two are eating right now
I know very little and the source was pretty vague and about a completely different animal (esox fish)
it said that the largest animals are in the cooler waters because slower metabolism lets them live longer. I would guess that a faster metabolism speeds growth, but not linearly
I'm surprised your centipede is still alive with that 1/2" hole. Anyways, one of my mutilans just molted too, and its also around a half inch longer. I hope he doesn't start picking on the others.
