Theraphosa species do get moisture from the air, along with others in the "swamp dwellers" class. The argument for a water dish comes down to time. If you are interacting with your animals daily you could get away with no dish. Just keep in mind that a tarantula can die of dehydration in as...
G pulchra will not be open to import any time soon. $450 for an adult female is very fair. As was mentioned, the breeding process is difficult. Pairing is rather simple with this species, but getting a sac is difficult. This species is very finicky when it comes to proper conditions to produce...
Slings can be a bit challenging at times, but the rewards far outweigh the hassle. Try working with hundreds of little tarantulas less than 1", now that requires a lot of patience and finesse.
Tarantulas have the following 7 major characteristics:
1. They are very hairy
2. They have no less than eight eyes in a rectangular pattern.
3. Long finger like spinnerets.
4. Dense hair pads (scopula) with two retractable claws on each leg.
5. Small spiny objects called cuspules or...
I am thinking these are caused by feeding. The spider gets fat at an accelerated rate, and often gets much fatter than it would in the wild. This could cause the exo to tear, or stretch.
. Dry air does not have a lower oxygen concentration, humid air does. As the humidity in air increases, water vapor molecules displace O2 molecules. The effect of humidity is larger at warmer temperatures because there is more water vapor in the air.
If there is no air movement in the room where...
For many years it was believed that birds were primarily instinctual animals. We are now learning that they exhibit a much higher intelligence level than we ever thought possible.
Who knows what we will learn about tarantulas in the future.
I have never lost one to a fall inside an enclosure, or to any type of fall for that matter. Like Stan, I heeded the warning.
As for your Question Stan, I am one who reads, but I also need to pee on the fence to validate what i read. ;)
You answered your own question. They are different species. Ther are very few species that will tolerate even their own kind, putting different species together is just asking for trouble.
All my Ts eat roaches. Roaches live longer, are hardier, easier to raise, and if you drop the temperature to 70F or cooler reproduction will slow way down.
