So I was working today just a mile or two south of downtown austin. My coworkers came to me and told me there was a tarantula outside the establishment and someone was going to step on it.
Well I went to outside and rescued a Mature Male A. Hentzi from the onlookers. It was pretty easy to...
So its been a while since I posted. Not necessarily due to any particular reason. I guess I just haven't had any questions or updates about my Ts.
But yesterday morning I awoke to find my A. Hentzi mature male in semi-death curl and he just looked awful. His abdomen was shriveled and puny...
I see my Lividum out at night quite often (comparitively.) I unfortunately had to dig her up because her hide (bark hut) was developing some ugly mold, so she has been stressed out and out in the open constantly.
But when she had a burrow, she'd come out for strolls, always after sundown...
It's my first time using a fake flower. I'll call it an experiment. ;P
Update: the OBT has been successfully moved in. I ended up spritzing some water through a vent hole on the top of the display box and the little bugger peaced out quickly. No threat display or escape, nice and smooth. My...
So my P. Murinus molted the other day, thus making my feel bad about its living conditions. I wasn't expecting a molt, and I do not know yet how much it has grown. It could not stretch out in its home. So I woke up early today, got a bus pass, and made my way up to the container store, where I...
My OBT is actually not in my face... ever! He (that's my educated guess based on this last molt) has never given me nor his previous owner a threat display. He molted last night around 3AM and let me retrieve the exuvium at around 9AM without so much as a fuss.
Go to the container store. I'm headed to one today to find new housing for my OBT.
That stuff is pretty cheap, and you can find detachable base containers.
You're best bet with the latching side for cheap would be to make it yourself.
So I finally uploaded my feeding videos to youtube. Here's a couple of them. I have only gotten good videos of two of my Ts, but they are still good little videos.
Here's Lilith, my P. Cambridgei juvie:

I want to start this thread as a discussion about the recent earthquake in Chile. For those of you that don't realise just how bad it was, it was several hundred time worse than Haiti.
In fact, Haiti's earthquake pales in comparison. Where that unfortunate people experienced a 7.1(?)...
I'm glad your spider was found, Jairi.
I don't think I could ever vaccuum or bomb because of an escaped tarantula. But then again they don't scare me. And I don't have dogs or anything.
Slings are cheaper so you can get a couple and raise them to be big and beautiful.

There's a care sheet found on google.
They need good places to anchor web and hide. Many people use plastic 16 ounce cups with a fake plant or cork...
I agree with you. I got an H. Lividum as my first permanent Tarantula (as I had to give my first two away after a couple months before a very long move with little space.) It hasn't been a problem. I just use my head (for the most part) and respect it's space. I also have a P. Murinus. Very...
Are you going to buy slings?
Avicularia Versicolor web a lot generally and are decently cheap and very pretty. You must make sure they have humidity AND ventilation. Otherwise could be deadly.
You could get any number of Brachypelma species pretty cheap too.
