I would recommend looking into some entry level DSLRs if you dont mind spending a little cash. Nikon would probly be best if you are mainly concerned with photos. I prefer Canon for the video quality, but photo side of it doesnt compare, at least not on the entry level cameras. As stated above...

I think people could give you some more specific suggestions if you give a price range and experience with cameras. Also do you want to shoot video with the camera as well or just photos? As mentioned above though lighting, your lens and knowing how to use the camera can make all the difference.

Just wanted to give an update on these guys. Out of the 42 I only lost between 7 &10. Not sure exactly, a few were still alive but looking bad. I still think around 30 surviving and doing well is pretty good. I wish I would have taken some pics. Anyways thanks for the help everyone.

Yea it was a good size brood. I havent got an exact count of whats still on her back, Im guessing 15-20. So the brood size is somewhere around 60.
