When finding adaquet housing the rule of thumb is you want the T to have as much floor space (if its a ground-dweller) as three times its legspan. So the smaller your T th eless space it needs but most T's can easily get up to 5 or 6 inches.
As for lighting. I keep my T's in my living room and...
Definelty my GBB, then probably my OBT. My A. versicolor puts down a good amount of webbing herself. The GBB has the best looking webs though-they are so elaborate and thick.
Then what do you think this hobby is about? Grantted I don't go around showing my T's off for shock value, but sometimes, thats what it boils down to because mosy poeple who ask about my t's almost have a morbid curiosity. If all of our interests were purely sicentific then why do poeple ask...
Oh, if you don't have scissors handy you can always bend the long stick like thing. This will also prevent them from being able to lay eggs. Also, with my "plumb' looking female crickets, i tend to feed them to my T's with very good appetites so the circk gets gobbled up idmediately and don't...
If your plannig on handling I'd say no just because they tend to kick more hairs than other Brcahy's from my experience and tend to be a bit more skittish. they are vey pretty t's though and one of my fave. Brachy's. So if your okay with it not being able to really handle it then I'd say go for it!
A long time ago I had a paperwieght that was a real scorpion cast in resin. My mom had bought it at some gift shop while she was on vacation. It was pretty cool looking and i have no clue what happened to it (LIT I'm sure). Anyways, I did often wonder about it possibly decaying, but considering...
Wow-thats a small sling. i actually had to go back and look at the pic again becuase I didn't see the sling the first time. Like someone else said, Avic slings are orange and black and if its climbing a lot and webbing near the top of its enclosure it could be an Avic, whereas a G. rosea will...
My GBB is about 4.5 inches and I have raised her from a small sling. She is very fast and skittish but not agressive or defensive at all. I usally don't handle any of my T's, and if I did she probably wouldn't be one i chose to handle because of her speed and the risk of her escaping. I wouldn't...
Are any t's native to Colorado? I just thought it would be too cold for them there. Since it is a mature male, i would consider releasing it back wherever it was found so it can ahve a chance to breed. If you do decide to keep it for a pet, it will porbably die within the next 6 months or so.
If your looking for a fast grower, a G. aureostraita is not the way to go. Mine has molted three times since April and hasn't really gotten too much bigger. They are though, beautiful T's and are worth the wait IMO.
I think T's are an isolated hobby. When most vets see nothing but your typical domestic mannals, I think they almost have no need to learn and study about invets, because honestly, it might be a waste of their time to even bother. It' sad really, but vets, like any other service, fills the...
I have read all the threads about why T venom isn't that harmful to humans...I was just simply pointing out that I don't think there is enough of an actual human study group to know for sure. I fully understand that T venom is different than bee venom(because of some peptide chain) and that...
I have heard that highly stressed OW's can develop bald spots as well but have never personally seen it.
Everytime i have had an NW T go into pre-molt it has become blad and dark. T's do flick hairs as a defense mechanism but they also, form my experience, loose them prior to a molt. An example...
My new Years Ressolution about T's would be to not buy anymore , but instead get the ones that are outgrowing their KK's and vials bigger better homes and to come up witha clever yet very affrodable way to house my Avics when they do indeed get too big for the deli cups.
I don't know if I totally agree with that just for the fact that t bites are uncommon. Even among poeple who have kept hundreds of species for several years many have never had a bite.So i think its hard to determine exactly how many people are truely allegic, based on the fact that so few are...
My husband was alright at first with me bringing a T home-he was kind of nutral to the idea but as my collection expanded he started learning more and more about them and now has a great interest in them as well.
I guess becasue i'm married i've never really thought about finding a mate who...
P. murinus' are what are considered Old World T's (assuming that is what you have-I have never heard them called by the common name Golden Starburst before, but I know they are one of those t's that seem to have a ton of common names)
Anyways there are 2 types opf T's, Old World (OW) and New...
Thats a very good point. i have often wondered how much petco pays for what seems like they're forever stream of in-stock Rosies. I've figured maybe a few dollars at the most (probably less) and then they mark them up to 20 bucks a pop.
Well I'm glad to hear that your new G. pulchra is in a much, much better home and is with someone who will take care of it properly now. And five bucks wow...amazing deal! Congrats!:D
