She is a comfortable 8 inches.
Right after returning her to her enclosure, after these photos, she stood on her back legs and stretched up along the side of the tank. She pressed her front legs against the top of her 10-gallon enclosure. From the top of her substrate to the lid of her tank...
Haven't posted pics in a while. Here are photos of:
- our A. metallica (lucky find at Petco, mislabeled),
- our G. auroestriata stretching out in her home,
- our T. blondi taking a walk in our backyard, and
- our A. geniculata a week after a molt.
See the rest on our site...
I have had my 3" E. pachypus for about nine months now, and she has YET to make any attempt at a burrow. She did the same thing mentioned - "crunched" against the side of the tank, slow moving, etc. I gave her the right environment and have stopped worrying. She has water and eats fine (a little...
My E. campestratus had made a cave under her water dish. She never seemed to mind when I filled it up, or took it out to clean. (Then again, she doesn't seem to mind much of anything.) I just made sure she wasn't stuck under there, and she was fine. (She has eventually been moved to a different...
Tough question...I love all of my T's for different reasons (color, temperment, etc.).
I think I will be one board with the "hobby classic"...my B. smithi, Agatha!

I have two VERY tiny N. chromatus slings that would have a hard time killing anything I could purchase at a pet shop! I take a two or three-week old cricket and pull it in half. Each of the slings will accept the cricket half - which is the same size they are.
My two penny's...
I spoke with a very knowlegable tarantula hobbyist/dealer yesterday. He recalled a story of a very docile A. versicolor that he used to handle quite often. He never had a problem with this particular spider. Then the spider was bred and produced an egg sac. After this guy...
Good point. I guess my bottom line was trying to see if the development of a new arachno-related conference would take away from the existing conference - or just give everyone an opportunity to meet more often.
I'm just wondering, personally, if I my schedule will only allow me to attend...
Pet's Inc., in Tempe (just outside of Phx) often has a selection of different pedes (and scorps, and tarantulas, etc.).
I don't have their number handy, but they are on the NE corner of Mill Ave. and Southern. Just look them up in the phone book and see what they have available.
Hope...
I left it that way in the event that folks were not sure which of the two events they would be able to attend.
Have fun at the BTS convention - lucky!

With the announcement of Arachnocon 2006, those of us in this great hobby have yet another opportunity to get together!
My question, mostly out of curiousity, is whether or not you plan on attending both of the major arachnofunctions this year (ATS and Arachnocon), or if you will only be...
I don't interact much with the T's in my collection that have the higher probability of giving me a hard time. Because of that, I haven't seen a lot of aggression. My only threat pose was from my OBT, but that was during the initial transfer into it's new home. Since then, it has never minded my...
I agree. You can't beat a G. aureostriata when it comes to a combination of impressive size and docile nature. Be prepared to pay good money for an adult, if you can find one (most people don't like giving them up)! We love our Chaco dearly!
Another great docile T that is medium sized is E...
I have a juvenile A. wichitanum in my collection (go to www.AmazingTarantulas.com). I keep mine like my other desert Aphonopelmas. This spider has gone through various "habits," such as staying under a hide for most of the time, then going swimming in the water dish. Now this spider can almost...
I also have a wild caught chalcodes (from Maricopa). She will vary in her behavior, but she's never been aggressive. Hair flicking is not aggressive, but more of a nervous, or "knee jerk" reaction. She's flicked, she's hidden, she's stood still, and she's come to my hand like I'm an old friend...
A lot of very helpful posts on this thread. It's funny, but my wife (the REAL arachnophobe) says that she "kinda" wants to be bit. She has that "if they bite, they bite" attitude at times. Just the same, she is very careful around the T's, and won't have anything to do with the aggressive...
Watching the changes in both my wife and I since entering the hobby this past year, has been very interesting. Recently, I had an interesting (and heart pounding) experience with my adult B. vagans. Upon opening the lid to her tank for feeding, she teleported onto my finger and grabbed on with...
