Okay i have been calling them Aphonoplema since my very first tarantula, and now i type Aphonoplema into google and it gives me a spell check for aphonopelma... Which is it.
I don't think you even need to do any prekilling. As RyanC said already, emps don't really even sting their prey. The only time i have ever seen my emp use its stinger was when they were figting. Sometimes emps just reject food for a while, noting to worry about.
For my lobster roaches i just feed them some orange slices about once a week and the occasional apple slice. I always have some dog food that is crunched into little pieces available. The friuts cover most of the water they need but occasionally when it gets really hot in the garage i'll put in...
I have a communal Centruroides vittatus tank and lately I have noticed a lot of "action" happening at night. I witnessed my first scorpion mating the other night, but after the male deposidted the spermatophore on the rock, the female fought hard to get away and never touched the spermatophore...
Okay i think we should have some sort of gathering before arachnocon. It is starting to get hot here and bugs are beginning to come out (caught a mature male for my female A axax today). I'm thinking we should meet and hunt at a lake, possibly lake Travis? Around lakes is where I have had the...
I don't even know what to say... i've never even seen a picture of anything close to that. You caught that right!?!?! Geez i look back at that picture and it just looks alien. That is definitly something really cool. How big is it?
Today i found a Dynastes tityus at school today. It took me a while to ID it at school because they block the google image search. Anyways here are some pictures of it, it is a male.
They are prpbably wild caught and would rather not attempt to ID it then put their guess on their website, have someone pay $45 for it and have it not be what they sold it as. I would rather them not take a guess...
Do you mean the process of molting or the time between molts? I can't tell you the time it takes for the process of the molt because i have not witnessed it myself, but the time in between molts varies. Young scorpions will molt more frequently than larger ones, and scorpions that are fed more...
Be careful when messing with that burrow.Chances are that the spider is going to stay there until you go back but when a large predator is tearing its roof off i'm sure it will throw some really nasty strikes at you. Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but don't trapdoor spiders have signifigantly...
It sounds like a really fun project. I wish I had the setup, the patience, the time, the money, and the connection for something like that. I bet you can't wait to have hundreds of little baby emps running around in their own cage, i know i wouldn't be albe to wait...
Has there been problems...
Once they molt and wander off the mom's back they can be put in their own container. Why do you call it "claimed"? Did you know it was a female, much less a gravid female? If you don't want the babies you could always wait for them to hit second instar and sell them off or give them away (faster...
Okay i have three Pseudouroctonus reddelli and i'm wondering if they exhibit sexual dimorphism. From the top they don't seem to vary but when closely inspected from underneath it seems that the pectines of one are shorter than the other two.
How big are they from front to tip of tail when...
That is a nice find. I wish i could find another great plains rat snake. I used to have one but it was to agressive so i let it go. Beautiful snake, congratulations.
I almost brought home a large leech from a lake a few weeks ago. The only reason i didn't is because i didnt have anything to transport it with. I would totally let a leech feed on me! The way they swim through water is pretty cool to watch as well.
