I have actually heard that those half-logs might be pine (one of the reasons reptile companies do not list the type of wood on the product). They're apparently "heat treated" to prevent phenols from escaping and harming pets.
I have used these as temporary containers for both tarantulas and small snakes. I say temporary because these containers are not very "stable" and they tend to bend or collapse if you put enough pressure on them. Not a good thing when you're housing delicate critters! :P
I'm another chick who owns tarantulas, and I actually got my boyfriend into them after we hooked up :) It was very difficult finding a man who is actually interested in spiders - lots of guys say they aren't scared of them, but they have no desire to look at or hold them! Such liars! But I'm...
Not sure if anyone's posted this yet, but I found the story to be a little funny, and wanted to share it with other spider people!

*sigh* So... I'm assuming there were 2 black widows and it sent everyone...
Yeah, I have her in a room which is unfortunately very cool so she needs a little extra help in the heat department. Temperatures are where the should be (72-85) and to compensate for the dryness caused by the lamp I mist frequently.
So if this is not a wet molt, has any other T owners...
I'm not sure if this really is a case of "wet molt" or not, but I have two other tarantulas and I've never seen this in either of them.
I have a mature female A. avicularia whom I received recently from a friend of a friend (the owner unfortunately passed away), and she just shed yesterday...
It's an Exo Terra tank, so there isn't much silicone that I know of. And it was a year ago when I last used the chemical. I'm just really paranoid about it...
I have an old snake cage I used briefly last summer. During that time I used Provent-A-Mite, a strong anti-mite pesticide spray, inside the tank. Since then the tank has been cleaned with hot water, and all ornaments have been thrown out. But O'm still cautious.
My question is... Could this...
Good to know, Avicularia Man! I have one of those too, but he seems to be a lot more relaxed than my pulchra. Isn't it supposed to be the other way around? lol
I have a little 2 inch Grammastola pulchra, and I notice that sometimes when I have her out to clean her cage, she will get a little skittish and start walking away from me with her abdomen sticking upwards. She never runs at top speed, and she never does it when she's facing me. She doesn't...
I always look really closely at the molts of my Ts, and I don't wear gloves when I inspect, but I've never felt any itchiness afterwards or noticed any hairs on me. Are the urticating hairs still present on the skins, or have I just been lucky and should I wear protective gear next time?
