    rosie substrate question

It's almost time to change my rosie's substrate again, but I have one question before I do. In the past, I used a peat moss and vermiculite mixture. I have the peat moss, but my local pet store doesn't sell vermiculite anymore. They've replaced it with a bark like substance. Would my rosie...

    Molting question

My g.rosea just molted two days ago. All went well. My only question is this: is it important to remove the old molt from her cage? I ask this because the molt is deep in her burrow and I'd have to dig to remove it. It's also been about 5 months since I changed the substrate. Would it be...

    spider video

Holy crap could you guys beat down on me anymore? In the span of two days it probably took me an accumulative 4 hours, if that. It was surprisingly easy to do with Adobe Premiere. I don't freaking worship my spider. I first took video because I had an idea for that video project. I just...

    spider video

I was bored and made a fun little video about my spider. It has a huge Star Wars theme. I think you guys should like it. It is about 2.4mb and encoded in windows media format (wmv). You can grab it from one of two places: For those with fast internet connections, download it from here...

    Odd g.rosea behavior

My rosie acts very strange after I handle her. I usually guide her over the top of her cage and onto my hand whenever I hold her. Once I'm content and put her back in her cage, she scales the entire top perimeter of her cage. Sometimes she tried to get a footing on the top, but fails and will...

    My semi-demon spider

My rosie finally let me handler her today. It's been more than a week since I last tried to pick her up. That attempt ended up in me almost getting bitten. But today, she crawled onto my hand without problem. I set her on my desk and took some pics. I thought I'd share them with you all...

    Nice calm Rosie

Cool pics. Sorry to hear your rosies aren't very calm. Mine is a complete wuss. 90% of the time when I go in her cage to drop a cricket/change water/attempt to handle her/etc she darts off inside her hide. The only time she reared up on me is when my tweezers got between her and her dinner...

    Help determining age

I'm curious as to how old my rosie is. If any of you have raised them from a sling, I'd appreciate some guestimations as to how old mine is. Her leg span is about 3" from corner to corner. She is about 2" from fangs to spinerettes. Also, how long do rosies generally live? Thanks! -Paul

    2 questions...

Ah...so that is what those small little white goblets are on the side of my Ts tank! I was about to post a question about them...but I think I have an answer now! Is there an easy way to clean it? Is it that important to clean? -Paul

    Substrate changing

How often should substrate be changed? I have a rosie who lives on a peat/vermiculite mixture. I've had it for about a week now, so it should be good for a while. I'm just wondering when I should change it and what to look for to know it needs changing. Thanks -Paul

Would you want one of these?

That would be uber cool, but it would come with problems as well. What if you come across one of these tarantulas that hasn't been treated well? IF provoked, or if it's just plain mean it could attack and very well kill a human. What would you feed it? Kittens from the local pound? Bad...

    New additions

I'm looking to get a few new Ts in the future and I'd like to get some feedback. I think I definetaly want a b.smithi because the black/red combo just looks so cool. I was also thinking about a versicolor; they are also very pretty. I also want a spider that is a spaz and will be fun to...

    I wanna hold my T...

Well look at this. I wake up this morning to find my rosie outside of he hide. She's just chilling on top of a log. I'll keep that paintbrush technique in mind for next time though. Thanks for the suggestions -Paul

    I wanna hold my T...

I wanna hold my rosie, but she hasn't left her hide since she first found it. The only times she comes out is to web up the outside of her hide, but that's only in the middle of the night. I don't think she's hiding to molt at all, because she eats regularly. Is there some way to gently...

    preparing potting soil

I got a small bag of vermiculite for around $5. It was enough to fill a 10gal tank 1-2" deep. The peat moss was around $5 as well. The bag I got filled my 2.5gal tank around 3" deep and I have enough left over for at least 5 more refills. I mixed my substrate 60% peat, 40% vermiculite. I've...

    preparing potting soil

Are you adament on using potting soil? Or is it required for your particular slings? If not, try going with peat moss/vermiculite mix. My rosie loves it. Just a thought -Paul

    T.cam! With nightvision!

LOL! Yeah...my mom would never let me have a puppy or anything, so I decided to humor myself (and her) and name my local plants/computer. But I've gotten better! I have a tarantula! (which my mom still protests :P)

    T.cam! With nightvision!

Well last night I set up my digital camcorder to record my rosie. I always suspected she was up to no good at night, and this was my chance to prove it! Using night shot and time lapse recording, I was able to catch her nabbing a cricket as well as webbing up her home! It was very facinating...

    Substrate too dry?

I have also noticed that my rosie does not drink. She eats crickets, stays close to her hide, but never goes to the dish to drink. Is that a problem, or does the humidity keep her "saturated" enough?
